Can we talk about toddler shoes again?
After 3 months I took Emily back to Stride Rite to be fitted again and she had grown out of her first pair of shoes that I bought her, so I bought her 2nd pair.
Where else do you buy shoes aside from stride rite? They are so expensive! I've thought about getting her fitted and then going out to the outlets but it's far for me (I am in nassau) and I'd probably spend the money I saved on gas/lunch for the day if we took the trip out there.
DO places like Kid's Foot locker fit as well as stride rite, and are they any cheaper?
As it is I just spent $50 on a pair of sneakers, and she is going to need new dress-type shoes too with Easter and other events coming up.

Re: Can we talk about toddler shoes again?
have you checked out tjMaxx Kohls
I know they carry OshKosh brand shoes which are comfy and great quality. with 3, I cant spend $50 per pair, theres; no way. I think we did it with #1 and it stopped fast
actually TJMaxx even carries STride rite brand for like $25 or so. but its hit or miss with sizes.

I would say Target or Payless would be OK for dress shoes they won't wear often but day to day shoes I would spend the money to make sure they are good for her feet. I still keep Miranda barefoot most of the time unless we are out somewhere public.

I only get my shoes at Stride Rite. At this point in their lives, it's important to have them in good shoes. I know it's expensive, but it's necessary.

Melissa, I went to Kohls and got Nikes and got a pair of shoes that were on clearance at Stride Rite.
Her Easter shoes are Gap...

Do you have Clarkes Stores on LI? They do fantastic kids shoes. Noah has gorgeous light up shoes from Clarkes! They are like $40, but worth the money

Re: Can we talk about toddler shoes again?
my MIL works with physical therapists who have told her that price does not always mean quality in terms of shoes. (not always), yes there are crap shoes that are cheap shoes, but there are also some very soft girls shoes in payless that Ive seen. esp if theyre not being worn every single day.
and my hubby had a pair of skechers a few years back that were expensive and DESTROYED his feet. now he'll only wear Rockports.
Im not a beleiver of money always paying for quality. marketing is a huge factor. I do stick to certain brands that Ive tried and love for us and the kids. (sneakers). but i try to get them on sale if I can. and yes taking care of your feet is top priority in my book, but just dont need to go extreme.
just be aware of what types of shoes your child wears best, wide, reg, different styles, etc.

Re: Can we talk about toddler shoes again?
I usually go to the Stride Rite store, but I have gotten Stride Rites on sale at JCPenney and Macy's. The good thing about the department stores is that sometimes they put them on clearance and/or you can use coupons.
I know what you mean about the cost... Every 3 months we spend $100 on 2 pairs of shoes. Usually a pair of sneakers and dress shoes for church.

I totally agree with it being a necessary expense. My GF gets her kids shoes at Walmart and I wouldn't feel easy doing that. I was just wondering if Kids foot locker was as good...because there might be more of a price range there and still name brands like Nike and stuff. I don't feel comfortable going to a place where I fit her myself --- since I did that for her little dress shoes before she was walking and I was totally off on the size!
Is there a Stride Rite outlet in Nassau anywhere?

LOL.... Neither does Nate's. I usually have to get him wide or double wide depending on the shoe.

I found that OshKosh was wider than Stride rite when my boys needed wide width. now both their feet thinned out. but at one point I couldnt even get stride rite anymore, nicholas wouldnt fit into the XXwide, but oshkosh was a dream come true.
i think someone else on here found that too, was it trish?

And I think I remember there being a post about places that fit your child for osh kosh shoes. I think there was a place in Wantagh if I remember correctly that maybe Samlove posted? I am in Levittown -- a place like this would be great.

not sure where to size them. I had gotten my son a gorgeos pair of brown leather Osh Kosh walking shoes at DSW or MJM. i think they were around $30 ?
they also make AWESOME sandals for summer, super comfy and well made. I think I got those at Kohls.
but then they want the characters sneakers and sandals and there goes my osh kosh idea, now they have disney store sneakers. luckily their feet are not wide anymore, well Nicholas is a little wider, he's just bigger boned.

Re: Can we talk about toddler shoes again?
We get our shoes at One small step in Woodbury-- the nikes, pumas and addidas are a little cheaper than stride rite and I think much cuter...
My girlfriends told me this week at the Shoe box in Commack they got Nikes for $10 a piece..
Century 21 has an amazing selction of shoes and they are brand name.
Norddtrom rack has them too as well as Nordstroms..
These are all much closer to you then schlepping out to the outlets..

Re: Can we talk about toddler shoes again?
I love Stride Rite shoes/sneakers and they seem to fit my son best and wear well. I buy them from shoebuy.com mostly when I get coupon codes. For shoes he only wears only a few times, I will buy anywhere - payless, GAP, Kohls or other. I always like Nikes or New Balance for little boys too and think they are good but can't often find the right size at the right price for my son. I don't like to spend $50+ on shoes for things they wear for 3 months and are done.
Shoebuy has lots of real cute girl shoes - I was loving them lately. Lots of stride rite for the summer under $40 and with coupon codes - a good deal. I often take my son to be emasured at stride rite and then buy online. I am not sure how Keds work - but I have seen so many cute girly Keds on the site too.

Re: Can we talk about toddler shoes again?
have you tried marshalls? they carry stride rite.
Daffy's(if you get them at the right time) has awesome european shoes for dress occasions, I bought my son a pair of diesel sneakers there-originally $90 for $20 and they have primigi &ecco brand for about $20 that ive seen in boutiques for $65-100
theres a place in farmingdale-in the shopping center before advertureland-called chamberi shoes-really nice dress shoes from spain-big selection-and a lot of times they have 50% off sales, so you can get a really good quality pair for around $20-$30 Target once in a while has really cute shoes for really cheap! Also famous footware (theres one in massapequa) has great deals on toddler sneakers

Yes, it was me. My Andrew has Fred Flinstone feet and he had a hard time fitting into the Stride Rite 9WW
I will spend the money and get him Stride Rite for shoes he will wear often. For shoes that he'll wear one day for Easter, or even sneakers he wears in the yard to get dirty, I buy them at Kohl's or Target. I get his foot measured every 3 months at Stride Rite and will buy him a good solid pair there if he needs it.

Re: Can we talk about toddler shoes again?
If it was gonna be a one time wear- like JUST for easter- Id buy cheapies...
But for everything else- he is in stride rite- I believe a good shoe is really important for a child! I does get pricey- but if you hit the stride rite outlet you save so much$$$$

Re: Can we talk about toddler shoes again?
butting in here, at what point do I need to put her in quality shoes? She's standing all the time, and taking steps (with help).
Is she ok for now. I figure I don't have to worry about "real" shoes until she's walking on her own outside, right?
