talk to me about toddler beds
Which one do you have? Where did you get it? Why did you pick it?
I am starting to do my research as we are going ot be needing one soon, since the new baby will eventually move into the crib.

Re: talk to me about toddler beds
DS crib turns into a toddler bed. However, we didnt use it. We bought him a twin bed and bought the rails at Target. We felt that going from the crib to the toddler bed to a bigger bed later would be just too many changes and transitions. It was a good choice for us and DS seemed to enjoy sleeping in his "big boy bed" immediately. Good luck

Re: talk to me about toddler beds
We just bought one for Genevieve even though she wont be sleeping in it until the new baby outgrows the bassinett. We got the Olympia Dark Pine one by Jardine (it matches the crib). The crib is also a convertible, but again, we need it for the new baby! She took her first nap in it yesterday! We are slowly trying to get her used to it, and teach her how to get out of it (she tends to just crawl off) so by the summer, she wont hesitate to sleep in it al night!

Re: talk to me about toddler beds
I personally would bypass the toddler bed and go right for the twin. I felt that if you buy a toddler bed, you're going to pay more money down the road for a twin....so we went right for the twin and bought the railings.

I had a differnt mind set. Since I have 2 children 2 years apart, my DS will be in the toddler bed until he's 4 and by that time, my DD will be ready to use it (she'll be 2). I thought the twin bed was too high, even with rails, which I am not crazy about anyway. PLus, I felt my DS was too small at this point to get him some "real" bedroom furniture. When he outgrows his toddler bed, we will buy him a youth set with twin bed that he will use until he goes to college

My children are 2 years apart as well. You do have a good point about passing them down. I didn't think of that. However, you mention the part about the twin being too high, I bought a thing called a bunky board. It's basically a board that replaces the boxspring, making the bed lower.

Re: talk to me about toddler beds
We got convertible beds for each DC. That way, no additional cost after the initial purchase (except for a twin mattress eventually), and we can make the height age-appropriate.

Re: talk to me about toddler beds
Our DD is 22 months and for the past 3 months has refused to sleep in her crib.
She's been sleeping in our bed up until a week ago. We have a twin bed in her room and she's happily sleeping in that.
She squirms alot while asleep and I always find her sideways in the morning (we have 2 bed rails on the bed)
We went out and bought her a full size bed and will be setting it up this weekend.

Re: talk to me about toddler beds
Normally, I think of money first, and then whats cute and fun. but this time I had my heart set on getting them the car-toddler beds and thats what they have. They were both in them by 20months or so. The crib converts to toddler, but I needed it (the crib) ASAP again and I really just had my heart set on the car beds (too much walking Silver spoons as a kid )
Im in no rush to put them in twin, since my 4yr old is petite for his age. Imight keep him in there till he turns 5, maybe 6 or 7
ETA: I can switch right to the TWIN car beds after toddler, but it would eat up the room, way too bulky, so I havent even thought about that yet...
