Re: Can you contest a moving violation taken by a camera?
No you can't. You will get a ticket even if you go through a yellow light which turned red a second later. If the light is yellow, they want you to stop.
ETA: DH is a city cop and even he couldnt get out of these tickets. If he see's a camera by a light/intersection and the light turns yellow he makes me stop.
It's not a scam. They just dont want people speeding up when they see a yellow light.

I am not sure what people are not understanding.
We were going to the zoo. We never saw any yellow or red light.
I got a ticket in the mail showing us going through red light.
The 1st pic show us at the white line with not break lights and the light being red as if we intentionaly went through the red light. We remember because DH and I commented on quick the trip was with all the green lights.
WHY IN THE HECK would I be posting about me being so mad and feeling scammed if I knew I went through a red light? I would be paying the @!$%#@ ticket and not advertise it if I knew I was wrong, wouldn't I?
Anyway, apparently we are not the 1st victims. Several people told me the same thing happen to them. They never knew they went through a red light.

I have no idea.
I mean DH was driving and looking. I was the passenger and I am a complete backseat driver.
I am just going to pay the stupid ticket. I can't agree with it because we never saw a yellow or red light. But can I do really?

unfortunately there probably really is nothing you CAN do... You really have no proof... I know it blows. Fight it by mail, they might reduce it as a plea bargain. (I do that all the time with parking tickets...not sure if you can with moving violations)

You don't get points or anything
It's just the $50 fine

Re: Can you contest a moving violation taken by a camera?
I'm sorry that happened to you and dh, I think its a scam also, the lights are to quick and they should realy set the timer better on those lights because they're going to cause accidents there. I agree with everyone else just pay the ticket and if you have a number call and complain about that section or even write a letter.

Re: Can you contest a moving violation taken by a camera?
Same thing happened to us in Queens. I was driving- I know I didn't go through a red light. I'm thoroughly convinced that they give you a ticket for even going through a yellow light.
The picture they sent didn't make sense- it showed me intentionally going through a red light, and then the second picture showed the car behind me going through it too! Highly doubtful. But whatever, I paid it, even though I felt scammed.

Re: Can you contest a moving violation taken by a camera?
Take it from someone who lives in Queens - our yellows are MUCH shorter than those on LI! MUCH.
So much so that when DH drives on LI and stops at a yellow, people beep at us LOL its hard to get used to
((Not saying this is what happened to the OP -- just commenting))
