Can you do Femara (letrazole) w/o ultrasound monitoring?
B/C of my $&^(%_ insurance crap they won't pay for ovulation stimulation or monitoring until 6 months of TTC. The doc wanted to do Femara w/IUI but I'm wonder can I try just doing Femara and no IUI and see if that gets me anywhere or do you have to have constant ultrasounds even if you're not doing the IUI?

i am confused: are you asking femara and no u/s or femara and no IUI?
NO for femara and no u/s, you need monitoring YES, possibly for femara and no IUI. If you respond well and there are no sperm issues. GL!

If you use ANY ovulation stimulating drug, you must get monitored!!
As far as IUI, you don't need to, you can always do timed intercourse as long as there are no sperm issues, etc. - but a sono is a must!

you don't NEED to get monitored on them. but IMO its a waste to do a cycle without monitoring cause you wont really know whats going on or if the meds are working. so yes you CAN do it without monitoring, but is it worth the stress, probably not.

OK that's what I figured. Thanks.
I'm going for CD 3 bloodwork and ultrasound tomorrow so I guess we'll go from there.

I wanted to add one thing though. I do ovulate. He suggested putting me on it for FSH issues. This is all new to me and might be presumptuous. This was the plan he threw at me before I found out Aetna was going to say NO WAY.

Sorry, but I actually disagree here. If you don't get monitored, how do you know if/when your follicles are mature?
In a typical cycle, you could need monitoring even 2-3 times (sometimes people need even more!) to know that you are ready to trigger. I can't imagine just taking femara and hoping for the best.
Also, especially if it's your first time taking it you want to see if it's even at all effective. I didn't respond to femara at all.
(eta: sorry flowerwife can't agree with you all the time!)

Re: Can you do Femara (letrazole) w/o ultrasound monitoring?
If U/S's are not going to be covered, you can go for one just to get a baseline and to make sure there are no cysts, then be monitored via blood tests. For example, an E2 of 200 would suggest 1 mature follicle. I am a member of other boards who have members from all over the country. Not all doctors perform U/S at every visit. Lots of times the "measuring" of follies can be off a millimeter here or there and the blood test is most accurate.

I wouldn't do it without monitoring. Why can't you just tell the ins company you've been trying for 6 months? How would they know otherwise?

you actually agreed without knowing it. the question was do you HAVE to be monitored. the answer is NO you dont HAVE to be. unlike injectables it's not really going to endanger you really if you aren't monitored but is it entirely smarter to be monitored, yes of course. that's what i said in my reply. you actually pretty much reiterated everything i said, albeit a bit more wordy

Re: Can you do Femara (letrazole) w/o ultrasound monitoring?
As for lying to insurance- I had an IUD removed so I'm worry they can trace back to that.
As for using the Femara- I would not be using it b/c I don't ovulate (I do). It would be for FSH issues so I wouldn't be using a trigger shot if I am reading my protocol correctly.
Anyway it seems right this may all be a moot point b/c I have a cyst on my ovary so I'm waiting for today's b/w to come back to see if it's an active cyst. If it is then this cycle is a wash anyway.
