Monitoring with Clomid and Femara?
How do you exactly need to be monitored while taking Clomid or Femara? Is it just ultrasounds? Do you need to be monitored on Femara too? How many do you need?

each RE is different. some have you come in every 3 days or so - some have you come in once a week. its usually bloodwork and a sono. same type of monitoring for clomid or femara.

Re: Monitoring with Clomid and Femara?
I started femara yesterday and was told to come in again next Monday.
for one or two mature eggs!!
Anyway that's my protocol but what Flowerwife said was correct- everyone's protocol could vary!

Re: Monitoring with Clomid and Femara?
Do you think I would still need bloodwork since I know I O on my own every month?
And do you think I could get away with only 1 sonogram during the whole process of taking the drug? Maybe when I'm done taking it?
Since my insurance doesn't cover infertility right now, I have to find a way around it with my Endo issues. I don't think I can get awya with having multiple sonograms. I might be able to with one though.

I think you should do what ever your doctor suggests. These drugs are serious! I know paying out of pocket stinks but your health and well being are well worth it. Please do not take any shortcuts!

Re: Monitoring with Clomid and Femara?
I know they're serious and I want to follow what you're suppose to do. It's just I can't see an RE for infertility until August. My doctor said we can try Clomid, but we didn't talk much about it in the hopes that I get PG before going that route. I would only be in the care of my OB/GYN who I trust completely, I just wanted to make sure of what needs to be done.

Re: Monitoring with Clomid and Femara?
I took Femara 5mg (two 2.5mg pills) CD3-7. Dr. B had me come in on CD10 to do an ultrasound, and then again on CD 12 for an ultrasound (trigger with ovidrel late on CD13 and IUI morning of CD15)
Femara was NOT covered by my insurance. My OOP cost at Stop & Shop pharmacy was $160. I ordered the Ovidrel shot through FREEDOM PHARMACY And it was $44.25 OOP - no insurance coverage for it (with free Saturday Fed Ex shipping !!)
I ovulate on my own but my cycles vary greatly from month to month. The femara helped us time the IUI and made sure that I didn't miss the window.
GL !! HTH !!

Re: Monitoring with Clomid and Femara?
Yes, just ultrasounds to they can see if your ovaries are clear and then if you are ready to O. I went in for two ultrasounds...right at the start of my cycle and then again on CD12 when I was on Femara.
I did one cycle of Clomid that wasn't monitored and it was useless because I was just guessing about the timing.
The Femara was not covered under my insurance (it is not technically an infertility drug, but a breast cancer drug). It didn't cost me much, though.
