Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?

Yes and drove one for 13 years. I bought in when I lived in San Francisco because once you master the hills, I feel like you have a lot more control of the car with a manual.

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?

i have had two lessons, so in theory i *know* how to drive a stick shift, but i'm not particularly good, and i don't really like it, i would rather drive an automatic.

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?

I do and I prefer manual.

My first car (84 Camaro) was a manual. My most recent car (GTI VR6) was a manual too. I moved to NY in that car. Honestly, it was more fun to drive it on the open roads in MN than it was in traffic in NY. We won't own another manual as long as we live in the city.

My dad tried to teach me at 16 Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon but my stepdad was able to teach me at 18. I drove stick for 10 years...now DH has my car and I have the automatic. I love it UNLESS it's snowing and the LIE is moving at 3 mph and it takes me 9 hours to go 35 miles. Then I don't love it so much!

I learned how to drive manual transmission before I got my license. My dad had a manual mid life crisis car.

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?

I love sticks. I had a 240 sx that rocked. I may end up with another times time around for the affordability factor and that I may get a car that is better suited with a manual transmission.

Absolutely. My first automatic was when I moved to the US. I drive a manual every time I go to Ireland or England - it helps to remind me I should be on the other side of the roadChat Icon

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?

Yes, my ex and taught me how to drive stick on his mustang. It was a PITA though b/c you had to push the clutch all the way to the floor and I'm so short that I would always stall coming out of first gear.

So DH had me learn on his old car and it was a much better experience. However, today I drive an automatic.

No...and DH said he would teach me, but no on his car.

DH has a stick shift...so, I cannot drive his car (I think he did that on purpose Chat Icon Chat Icon ).

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?

Nope, I tried to learn once and did nothing but stall. So, that was it, never tried again and have no desire to.

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?

Proud to say I can! My first car was a manual.

My godmother gave me her old car after I got my license. My dad drove me around the block a few times, told me how to work it then told me to get in the car and go!

It took me a few months to get it down pat, and now it is like second nature!

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?

I drove one for 6 years and really liked it. But what a PITA it was to drive into Brooklyn on the Belt every weekend!

Now I have one of those automatics that can be driven as a manual also. No clutch pedal though.

I do still use the manual gears in a bad snow or ice storm.

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?

I have tried to master it, but I can't. All of my cars have been automatic. My brother tried to show me on his car once, but he has very little patience. And he kept saying "you're going to burn out my clutch!" I was finding it very difficult to get from stopped into first. I couldn't get the timing right between coming off the clutch and stepping on the gas Chat Icon
