Re: Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...
Hoover Windtunnel! I love that thing! The only downside is that it's much heavier than my Kenmore Progressive. I make hubby bring it up and down the stairs.

I just bought this Bissell at Linens and Things today. You should have seen the crap that came out of my carpet. It was $79.99 IMAGE
I have this same vacum, the first one we bought broke right away, so we exchanged it for another one. It has totally lost suction, and doesnt really pick up alot. I barely use it too.
We have a very similar one to that and have had it for two years. It is TERRIBLE on bare floors and now has pretty much lost suction. I do not reccomend this one!! Now I am looking for an electrolux based on a housekeepers reccomendation.

I have this vacuum for my first floor. It's ok but not great. The suction really isn't the best. It's a year old and I'm already looking to replace it. I have a Hoover Windtunnel that I love for my second floor but the only bad part is its on the heavy side. We use a Dyson at work and I hate it. Overpriced POC!

Re: Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...
I know you said, NOT a Dyson, but I just got the Dyson Animal a few weeks ago and I love it. We have very hairy cats (Maine Coons) and it works wonders. If you're really anti-Dyson, I'd suggest Oreck. That's the brand my mom uses and she really loves it. We had a Eureka but it wasn't great at picking up cat hair.

My Kenmore just broke so I got a Hoover Wind Tunnel Lite. Lite my butt ...Its super heavy and it STINKS!!!
I want to throw this thing out the window. Too heavy, doesn't pick up anything, the tools keep falling off and it is super loud.
Do not buy a Hoover Wind Tunnel Lite!

Re: Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...
Well I bought a Miele TT Cat and Dog and its great (so far) It comes with lots of attachments and all the attachments LIVE ON BOARD! Thats right, they all fit right inside. The man at the department store told me that Dysons were not so great, and that they are overrated, Miele's are much better. And when I was looking at it a man came by and told me that Which? magazine (its like our consumer reports mag) rated it the best vacuum for cat and dog hair. So there you go!! I done it!!!

Re: Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...
I have heard that you can't beat an electrolux. I have had a Hoover and a Eureka and both are soooo loud but pick up well! I think my Mom bought us the Oreck for Xmas so I will have to let you know!
