Can you swallow pills?

I'm curious b/c I feel like the only oaf who can't swallow pills. I have a little pill splitter and heaven forbid I get a gel cap I'll be there till Easter trying to get it down.

I can take 2 at a time of small-ish pills or 1 big one, like a vitamin. but I need at least 1 big gulp of water

I have this totally irrational fear of swallowing big pills. The best I can do is a Motrin/Advil, and even then, I have to drink a whole glass of water.

I have a difficult time with pills. I always need water to take them and can only take one at a time.

I used to have an irrational fear, where I couldn't swallow them whole. Same as you, I would split them, chew them, whatever.

A guy told me his wife cured her fear. By doing something I was sure wouldn't work. By putting a pill in a teaspoon of honey and swallowing it.

Why honey? Any sticky substance - honey, peanut butter, chocolate syrup.

You know what? It worked for me. That was years ago, I did the honey trick, weaned myself off it slowly with smaller pills like advil, and now I can swallow antibiotic and vitamins with water.

I feel your pain, but maybe give it a try next time.

same here, and as of this week so can my 5 year old. Well he can swallow one anyway.

I can take like ten at a time lol you get so used to it if you take a lot of vitamins like I do - between that and BC, I take a lot of stuff.

Biotin, Vitamin C, Centrum, Acidipholus (sp??), etc.

Its very hard to get it down, i actually always choke and cough right after, but id rather choke and cough than chew and taste that nasty pill taste.

I cannot swallow pills to save my life!!!

Everytime I go to the doctor I have to specifically find out how big the pill is or if there is a liquid option.

I cant swallow pills at all. Personally, I think now i have it engrained in my head that I can't. I will crush them up usually. Thank God my birth control pill is small enough to swallow.

i should show this to dh i can't swallow a pill. my doctor says its okay. my mom says what will happen once i become pregnant. my gyn says there's a liquid form vitamin that i could take

I used to not be able too at all.. then i got prego and had to take prenatal vitamins and that taught me.

Now i can take more than one at a time, depending on the size of the pill.. The prenates are huge.

i can swallow BCP because they are tiny, and small Advil, Sudafed...can't do large pills though. DH taught me by swallowing my inactive BCP and teaching me with tic tacs.

one of my patients taught me a trick last year and now i can swallow about 6-8 at one time even big ones!! put your tongue to the roof of your mouth while you swallow. it opens up the throat. great trick try it. hard to get it the first time but it works with practice

I said other, and here's why:

I'm typically pretty good about taking pills. But now that i'm pregnant, I can't get any down without gagging uncontrollably.

It's quite annoying.

I can swallow any size pill - don't usually even need water, but I drink it because you're supposed to.

I rarely, if ever, need water. DW knew someone who needed two full glasses of water for one pill....

I don't understand....you swallow food larger than a pill!

i can take 3 or more with no water!

I can usually take as many pills as i need but i always have to have water. DH and swallow a ton of pills without water and it amazes me!

I can swallow any size pill and could probably do a bunch at once but I definitely need water.

DH can hardly swallow a pill and has to focus for about five minutes before he gets his vitamin down. He is insulin dependent and nothing about giving himself shots, installing a port for his insulin pump or testing his blood sugar bothers him as much as swallowing a pill does.
