Can you touch-type?
Just thinking of some topics that I know were asked a while ago...
Can you touch-type? I type for a living, so I've been able to touch-type since HS. I'm surprised that coworkers are fascinated that I can turn to look at them when they come to my office, and continue to finish my sentence. I explain to them that the keys haven't moved in 25 years, so it's not hard to remember where they are....

Re: Can you touch-type?
Yes, and I'm self taught. But my mom was a secretary.
I'm not super fast (40-50 wpm), but I also when people are amazed. Especially when they took a keyboarding class.
In my school district they put masks on the keys in 3rd grade. I totally think it's a needed skill!

Re: Can you touch-type?
I am self taught (so my fingers aren't always on the right keys) but for the most part yes - though I do have to look down occasionally.

Yes, also self taught. I blame it on all the papers I had to do in college

Re: Can you touch-type?
Yes, I took typing in HS and it just stuck. My DH took the same class and can also type without looking. It's a useful skill, so glad I took that class way back when.

Sometimes. I type all day long and most times do not need to look at the keyboard.

Yes, without looking.
I took a class in HS but I didn't do well in the class. I remember some stuff, like proper finger placement but I didn't pick up the speed until I got my own computer at home and was IMing.
I can go pretty fast, about 80-95wpm.

Re: Can you touch-type?
Absolutely. We took a keyboarding class in elementary school and I was one of the few that actually paid attention. They even made us turn off the screens, close our eyes, and look away from the computer and keyboard. Most people are amazed at how I can look at them and have a conversation while typing something up almost perfectly (and quickly too )

Actually, no... I know quite a few people in the IT field that can't touch-type. They hunt and peck, or do one or two fingers on each hand.... for 8 hours a day!

This is so true
I can do it, but I am a bit obsessive-compulsive when it comes to proper spelling & punctuation in my work & personal correspondence so I look & double-check everything. What I find funny is that I lose the impulse when I'm on LIF & my posts are a mess to look at! lol

Re: Can you touch-type?
Yes, in college my roomates would think it was freaky that I could type a sentence and talk to them at the same time.

Re: Can you touch-type?
I don't need to look at the keyboard most of the time. Like when I was typing this whole thing, I didn't look. But if it's a word that I don't typically type, I look down.
I taught myself... Just years of practice!

Re: Can you touch-type?
Yep. Taught in elementary school for three years. Can do I without looking and 90 speed. I dislike screen typing. I realize I type too fast on my iPhone and I'm faster than it can keep up. If u see a post on lif of mine with errors it's generally because I used my iPhone.

absolutely - I went to Katharine Gibbs. Not only can I touch-type but I learned on a typewriter that didn't have the letters marked!

Re: Can you touch-type?
Yes, I took a class in school. Not sure how many wpm but I'm pretty speedy. But I must admit, aside from the exclamation point, I've always had trouble with the numerics and punctuation in the top row.

Re: Can you touch-type?
I type with my nails which has caused the actual letters to be worn off my keyboard but I still need to look at it It freaks people out when they need to type on my keyboard bec there are no letters on it except like q, z, x and g

I voted wrong. I didn't read the post so I thought I had to look at the keyboard because I thought this was for the touch screen on a phone. hahaha.
I also learned in high school and refer to that class as the best class I ever took!
It had typewriters!
