YUP>..... made Alexa worse. Zantac is flavored with peppermint which is actually CONTRAINDICATED in people with reflux because mint relaxes the spincter muscles causing them to reflux more.... Also it made her SUPER fussy and WIRED!
Once we switched to prevacid we did MUCH better!

Re: Can zantac make it worse?
Yes, Pepcid and Zantac made DS worse. Prevacid was the only thing that worked for him. The only side effect was that it wired him. So the first 2 days there was little to no sleeping, but once he got used to it he was like a new baby!!!

Same as both pps. Zantac never helped DS, Prevacid is really all that worked.

Re: Can zantac make it worse?
I'm wondering if he does not have ar and that's why its worse- could that be a possibility? All I know is he is super fussy and will not be put down! I'm not giving tonights dose, just not sure if I should have the meds changed or just drop them?

Re: Can zantac make it worse?
What made you put him on Zantac? What were his symptoms?
My DS couldn't drink more than 1 or 2 oz tops at a time. I was feeding him around the clock. He had silent reflux. He NEVER spit up. He'd swallow it His breath always smelled like vomit, he'd make the ick face like he was in pain when it happened, he arched, screamed, etc. when he ate.
We had to see a GI who prescribed the prevacid. My DS wasn't a severe case, since he was gaining weight and thriving, but he was obviously in pain.
Have you tested his stool for a milk protein allergy?

Re: Can zantac make it worse?
Zantac made my DD worse also. She was a happy spitter, with no AR symptoms other that spitting up more than an hour after eating.
We switched her to Axid and it made a world of difference.

Re: Can zantac make it worse?
Ds gets very fussy while eating, pulling off the breast, kicking his legs, crying- but not every feeding. Dr suggested - I declined but when we went back and his weight wasn't where it should be they thought ar might be the cause. (Like why he isn't eating) He does spit up- sometimes more then others (sometimes just liquid, sometimes really thick). He hasn't been tested for milk protein allergy.

Re: Can zantac make it worse?
How old is he now? If it's a milk allergy usually they start getting really loose stools. My DD started at about 5 weeks with diarrhea that was so watery it wouldn't stay in a diaper. She always cried after eating, she had a milk allergy. DS always cried during eating, he had silent reflux.
Maybe it's something you are eating that's hurting his belly. Think about what you eat. Maybe cut out dairy for a few days and see if he improves. If not change then go back to dairy and cut out something else. Just a thought.

Re: Can zantac make it worse?
He is 7 weeks old, the fussiness started at about 3-4 weeks and is minimal MOST of the time. His poop is always watery but I just thought it was from being ebf

Re: Can zantac make it worse?
Yes. It made my DS MUCH MUCH worse. Got better after we stopped it - Ped said this can happen - it does cause side effects in some babies- stomach irritation etc. etc.

Yes it made her throw up more, so I went with my instint and put her on RTF and guess what she has not thrown up as much!
