Cancelling Gym Memberships.... I have a question
So today I call my gym to cancel a membership I have been locked into for the past 2 years. FINALLY my membership is over (I haven't been to the gym since before my wedding in Aug.)
After calling my gym, I finally get a live person- nasty attitude & all!
Is this guy just kidding me or is it REALLY New York State Law to send in a certified letter of cancellation ??? I have never heard of this.

I had to do this...and you have to cancel 30 days before your billing date or you get charged for that month!
The process is always difficult!

I don't know if you can do this but when I moved I transfered my membership to someone else. He was able to take over the rest of my monthly payments. All I had to do was write a letter and we both signed it.

I had to get a certified letter to cancel my membership at Synergy. It was a PITA and they didn't receive the letter in time so I had to pay for an additional month...

I had to do it with a gym membership when I was cancelling even though my contract was up and the gym CLOSED.
I did that... and they charged me the next month. I called they said to send an email did that and they charged me the next month. I called and told my credit card to not charge me they did that for 1 month.. and let the charge go through the next month
SO basically I got screwed for 6 months with a membership that i couldn't use

I just cancelled mine yesterday to join a new one and all I had to do was call.  Better check my bank statement next month.
