canister vacuums?
I'm getting a new vacuum & I'm NOT getting another upright-they just don't work well on wood/tile. My mother had an electrolux canister when I was a kid that was awesome. Unfortunately I am not willing to spend $400++ on a vacuum. Today I looked at a hoover cansiter vac, it was the style with a bag, good price, decent reviews online. I'm dealing with a lot of dog hair & we get tons of sand in the house in the summer. Do you have a canister in the less than $200 range that you like?

Not in the $200 or less range but we love our Kenmore Progressive. They do make different models and there is a $250 one. Ours was $350. One of the features of the higher priced one was an extra long hose and cord.
I have cats and it works great. Also, we have wood, pergo, and tile through out most of the house.

Re: canister vacuums?
We have the Hoover Windtunnel - it's bagless and has a Hepa filter. Don't remember how much is was but I think around $250. It works great and I like the design (turn it on and off on the handle not the canister, the cord retracts into the canister, button on the handle to turn the carpet brush on and off, etc). DH thinks it's cool too so I actually get him to vaccuum sometimes without a hassle.
ETA: Costco has it on their website for $195.

I just got this too -- highest rating on Consumer Reports (actually the lower priced one). We got the lower priced model because I didn't see the need to spend $100 for the extras - the cleaning girl uses it anyway, not really me.
AND -- it was on sale so I think we got it for $200.

Re: canister vacuums?
I have a Kenmore Canister Vacuum (I'm not sure of the model). We got it about three years ago and I absolutely love it! You can get under furniture and use it on the wood and tile floors also. I believe we paid $250 for it.
