"Can't he shut that damn kid up"

This is what two employees said about my daughter having a tantrum tonight at the Lake Grove Toys R Us. My husband was in the back of the store, and I was in the middle looking at clothes when I heard my daughter start to tantrum. I was turning around to go get her and bring her out of the store when these two girls stocking shelves loom at each other and go ugh can't he shut that damn kid up. It took everything in me not to punch them in their throats. I walked over and said just so you know That's MY child and the next time you want to talk shit make sure the mother isn't standing there. They both looked down and said nothing! No apology! I was livid, got their names and spoke to their manager (who even said to me he knew who I was referring to before I even said their names) but I doubt anything will be done. I am so pissed I just needed to vent. My kid is not even 2, she was screaming but it wasn't that long and I was going to take her out of the store. I mean give me a break. If you don't want to hear crying kids then don't work at a freakin toy store.

Thanks for letting me vent Chat Icon

good for you! I'm glad you said something. it's a damn toy store...you know how many kids lose it there bc they want everything in the store. they need to understand the environment they signed up to work in and get over it.

Thanks Ladies. I def lost my shit on them. I was so angry and I was shaking because I wanted to hurt them. I've already written a letter to corporate through their e-mail and received a response about a district manager getting in touch with me so we shall see.

What a horrible thing to say- I would be livid!!! I don't know how you managed NOT to punch them.
They sound like miserable human beings. They need to find new jobs.

They have no business working in a store geared towards children. I would definitely write/call corporate. They need to train their employees better.

I said this and to let this be a lesson if you are gonna talk some shit about someone's kid then you damn well better make sure their mother isn't standing there. I think I shocked them bc I came out of nowhere they didn't even see me. I had a few choice words mixed in. When I spoke to the manager I was seething still so my brother in law took over talking. Thanks for letting me vent!

Lol.

I would have pulled a witch and told then in a spooky voice that I curse then both with the most horrible colicky, temper tantruming babies there ever were born!

They will thing of you when they birth their own little rug rats!

In all seriousness, sorry. Everyone who goes out has had a kid flip out in a store. I know people have thought that about me: you should have seen me shopping for a dress for a friends wedding with 2 kids while DH was working overnight!

I would have lost it, good for you for saying something. I have a 7 year old autistic brother who has had his moments in public many many times. My mom has had people say things lie that right to her face, she often times loses it and shares the fact that he is autistic. People really need to be more understanding and more accepting.

How old were the employees? I could have seen my 16 year old self saying the same thing. Still, employees should be held to a higher standard especially at a toy store.

They were young and in any other store I would have taken that into consideration but your in a toy store, ya know? You would think they would have enough sense to realize its gonna happen when you work in a place like that. Then again, they were stupid enough to talk in the open and never even turned to look to see if someone could see them. Even if it wasn't my kid, I would have said something had I heard it only difference is I probably wouldn't have been a raging beast lol

I was thinking the same thing - not surprised to hear a young employee say it (assuming they were young) but they shouldn't work at a toy store

I agree. Write corporate, Facebook, twitter
That is horrible, I don't care if they were 16.
If it were me, I would want them fired.

I actually hope they didn't get fired because of it.

If they were young and got fired, then they probably won't realize why they were. If they still have the job then maybe they will have to learn how to be a proper employee.

Plus I'd feel bad I got someone who potentially really needs a job fired over a tantrum. Just MO

I'd have been really mad too. Hopefully they will think twice next time before saying something like that. They definitely picked the wrong store to work at if they can't stand the sound of kids crying.

I'm confused why they wouldn't realize the reason they were fired....

I think being fired will teach them the lesson they need to learn. I don't care if it was a 13 year old- you are old enough to work, you are old enough to be respectful.

I'd be livid! In fact I probably would have called corporate right in front of them!

They need a job elsewhere! And the fact that the manager knew too, they need to be reported to corporate too. It's a children's store! No excuse!!!

Re: "Can't he shut that damn kid up"

I am sorry you were upset. I think what they said could upset someone, clearly it upset you. But if it were my kid and they said that it honestly wouldn't have upset me if I heard someone say that about my child. B/c if my own child did that I would want to shut my kid up, and would imagine others would want my kid to shut up. Especially a young person.

I really don't see the big deal in what they said personally. Being that it IS a children's store, and a TOY store, they probably hear a LOT of tantrums in there and I imagine it could get tiresome!! I know they "choose" to work there but this isn't exactly a million dollar job that people line up out the door for. But to each is own I guess.
