Re: "Can't he shut that damn kid up"

I think people are taking this way too literally. No one is REALLY going to physically assault someone over these comments, I'm sure. Posters who may have said things of that nature were likely just illustrating how furious they would be. I don't think the OP did anything wrong. I think you absolutely should have addressed it to management. Customer is king and in a store like TRU or BRU, employees should absolutely be more mindful of saying something so inappropriate or they should find a job elsewhere.

Some of you need to get off your moral high horse and not take things so seriously in an effort to just stir the pot.

I guess there are quite few people on here who are better than me... because I would have done exactly what you did! Teenager or not.. I don't care, you are getting paid to work in a toy store. If you can't handle it, go work somewhere else. I'm not out to "teach" anyone to make anyone a better person, but if you talk shyt about my kid, the momma bear is coming out. And while I'm ripping you a new one, if you got some life lessons, great.. otherwise, go eff yourself.. Chat Icon

I said it in anger when writing my post, you've never said something out of anger and not meant it literally? My dd was in the back of the store as well so she didn't hear/see anything I said.

You really don't need to defend yourself.. the comment you are replying to was totally uncalled for.

ETA: when I read your post, I got that you were "thinking out loud"..

Seriously!! Since it wasn't you in the store it is easy to say "how" you would react but the OP was the only one who went through it....how about a little support for a mom who is upset?

I agree. It's hard enough having to deal with your child who is having/about to have a tantrum but then hearing strangers making these rude comments makes it even worse!

Ugh. I don't get people.. don't work in a toy story if you don't want to hear the occasional kid crying.

Once a cashier at the Childrens Place told me flat out "i don't like kids" as my son was being a brat... I looked at her and said "you picked one hell of a place to work" and walked out.

Re: "Can't he shut that damn kid up"

I get your frustration op. Like someone else said, personally, I'd feel more embarrassed then anything else.

But, depending on how I felt in that moment I would have wanted to say something like, "seriously? I get he's loud but that's my son and you do work in a toy store you know?" That's as far as I would have taken it. If it was an adult and/or if that was said directly to me I might have taken it further. I think their reactions showed that they got what the op said and felt embarrassed themselves. Live and learn right?

I feel like I'm frequently Chat Icon but even I get it when someone says, "I would have punched them out" was an expression of anger. It sucks that in this day and age it's hard to tell the difference sometimes.

This

Plus I find it ironic

Everyone seems to agree that that teens are entitled more than ever and get away with murder because parents brush it off as typical teen behavior. And everyone hates that. But here in this thread - it seems to be excused because "they're young and young people do dumb stuff" and people are saying not to have these youngsters lose their jobs. It just sounds sorta like the enabling behavior we usually hate here. I don't know.

Also - most complain over lack of decent customer service these days. While they weren't servicing anyone - this is just another example of how employees aren't doing the right thing by customers.

And kids cry. Have temper tantrums. It happens. We all did it ourselves when we were growing up. I never get why people get so ruffled over a kid crying especially in a children's store.

they really should find another job .
write a letter to corporate and put on their facebook page.

This!!! All of it!!!

I DEF would have knocked them out if they said that about my kid!!! Good for you for keeping calm, you are a better person than me!

Seriously? You would have knocked them out, and then what? Ended up in jail for assaulting teenagers over something stupid they said? Great example for your child.

ITA. If this is your reaction then I wouldn't be surprised if a child with parent with such anger (over something so small) throws tantrums.Chat Icon

Uncalled for.

What is actually uncalled for is the witch hunt going on to get people fired, knock them out, punch them in their throats, etc, for commenting on wanting a child to stop screaming.

eta- It's pretty extreme to want to harm someone (a teen.young person no less) b/c they don't want to hear a kid scream and happened to say it and got caught. Is it really violence worthy? That's most definitely uncalled for.

But she didn't get violent. Someone else made that comment. She yelled in the heat of the moment. Your comment insinuating that her anger is the reason for her child's tantrum was unnecessary IMO.

I am not sure what you are saying. The OP said she wanted to punch them in the throat and the above poster said she would have knocked them out, to which Bargainmama replied. And I then did as well, in response to either violent statement.

I said it in anger when writing my post, you've never said something out of anger and not meant it literally? My dd was in the back of the store as well so she didn't hear/see anything I said.

I didn't even know this was happening and controversy came from just a little comment. I wouldn't REALLY knock someone out physically but I probably would have yelled as well. I think the OP did EXACTLY what I would have done. When my child is screaming the last thing I need is for someone to make a comment like that in the heat of the moment. Please don't judge on how I raise my child when you don't know me.
