Can't hear the heartbeat until 12 weeks?

I just read on my OB-GYN's website that they don't do the fetal heartbeat until your 12 week appointment!

I was completely looking forward to my appointment tomorrow (it is my 1st appointment & I am almost 8 weeks along).

Now I am just so annoyed.

I wonder if I ask for it if they will do it.

I know Suffolk Obgyn only did it at 12 weeks for me.

You can ask ~ we saw the heartbeat at our 6-7 week but we were not due to hear the heartbeat until our 12 week (I cheated because I had to go to sono earlier at a specialist but I believe I was about 10/11 weeks and the technichian let me hear the heartbeat earlier)

i heard mine at 8 weeks - don't know how, but i had an internal sono and the tech flipped a switch while the wand was inside and BAM there it was - it was awesome

I didn't hear it until the 12 week appointment either.

I heard it at 8 weeks via an internal sono.

First time we were able to hear it with the doppler was 11weeks and my midwife wouldn't guarantee she'd be able to find it. Something about the position of the baby.

We saw the heartbeat at 8 weeks and heard it at 12.

Can't hurt to ask. We saw the heart beating at 9 weeks but didn't get to hear it till my next appointment which was at 12 weeks.

We heard the heartbeat via the internal sono at 8 weeks. We heard it via the doppler at 12 weeks.

I had an internal sonogram at 7 weeks and we could see the flickering heartbeat but the doctor told us it would be too early to hear it.

Then at 10 weeks, the doctor tried using the dopplar unsuccessfully and I started to FREAK out. But then I had an ultrasound done right then and there (I had some spotting/bleeding) and the baby was just pefect. The doctor said that even at 10 weeks, hearing the heartbeat via the dopplar can be hit or miss, depending on the baby's position.

At 12 weeks, the dopplar picked up the heartbeat right away with no problem.

I saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks. I can't wait to hear it!!!!

I don't think I heard the heartbeat until after my 12 week sono. I think they probably wait until it is definitely strong enough to hear so moms to be don't freak out if they can't find it.

While I saw the heartbeat on the sono at 10 and 14 weeks, I did not hear the heartbeat for the first time until my 17 week appt.

I heard mine at 5 weeks, 4 days through an internal sono at the RE's office.

They don't usually try to hear the heartbeat with a doppler until about 12 weeks.

You may be able to hear the heartbeat if you are given an internal sonogram before that.
