Car failed inspection spinoff ( sort of) : Buying inspection stickers !
So my co-worker informed me the other day that her car didn't pass for inspection ,so she bought one  I had no idea that this was going on ! I guess I live under a rock ! I have to say I was not happy to find this out though . Knowing that people are doing this ,and how many unsafe cars are on the road ..it kind of freaks me out

it was a problem in NC, now we don't have stickers...just computerized with license plates.

PLEASE try to find the source and report them to the Police! It means the stickers were stolen and the shop is charged for them!

This goes on all the time and is more common than you think.
You can "buy" inspection stickers.
I've heard you can also "buy" defensive driving certificates (so you don't have to actually attend the class).

I did that when I was 17 with my first car, 20 years ago. It was much easier then, there was no hooking it up to a machine. The car had an emissions issue, it wasn't like the brakes were failing or anything that dangerous. I wouldn't do it now, of course.
I think someone told me that they just hook up a different car that will pass and give you the sticker. That's not confirmed though.

Awful!! So unsafe cars are on the road and may kill someone!!! It is obviously a very "shady" shop and should be reported!!!

Ialso did this with my first car when i was in college. The mechanic ran another car that passed and I got my sticker. I had a sensor problem and mt car wouldnt pass on its own and I was too broke to fix it.

Not necessarily.
They put another car on the machine and then give the sticker to the person who bought it.
