What are you registering for? Infant one and a converter one? Are there ones that connect into the stroller? Any recommendations?

I have both on my registry. I have the Chicco Keyfit 30 and the snap and go stroller it goes with. then I have the Chicco convertible seat as well.
Also... they sell adapters for most strollers so you can use them with almost any infant seat :)
I felt like the BBB in Huntington was very helpful and informative with this :)

If I had to do it over again, I'd register for an infant seat for my car and a convertible seat for my DH's car. I liked the convienence of the infant seat, but we were rarely in DH's car so getting a convertible (and not a base) would have made more sense.
If you're planning on using an infant seat in both cars, I'd hold off on the convertible since they are always updating them so in a year when you need it, they might have nicer features. Also they expire so it'll let you get an extra year out of it.
Eta: we have the Chicco key fit, Chicco NextFit, and britax marathon. I liked the snap and go stroller for the infant seat.

I registered for the Gracl 30lx infant seat: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=80523666&fromRegistryNumber=55782701&product_skn=218302
and, like PitterPatter11 said, we put a convertible seat for Dh's car. We picked the Graco 4ever for his. I will be doing the daycare pickups/dropoffs 99% of the time, so he doesn't really need the click & go infant seat

Yes, most convertibles can be used for infants. The minimum weight is usually around 4-6lbs. But for newborns, I'd recommend an infant carrier because they fall asleep in the car often and it's easier just to pop them in and out that way without waking them.
For a convertible, I agree with PP about not registering for one. They always have new ones coming out and it's best to get a new one so the expiration date is as late as possible. I recently changed my DD over to a convertible and we got her the Graco 4Ever carseat, which I LOVE!. DS has a Britax Marathon, which I liked a lot until I got the Graco, which I love even more.

It depends on your preference. Most people prefer the convenience of the infant carrier in the beginning bc it can snap into a compatible stroller and be removed from the car. There are several convertible seats that can be used from birth.
If you go with the infant carrier, I would not register for a convertible seat unless you plan on using it right away. Car seats expire and most people who use the infant carrier use it until the baby is 6-12 months on average. It's a waste to have the convertible sitting there expiring while not in use.

You can use the convertible car seat starting at practically newborn but, IMO, they are so tiny at that point and have no head control so it just doesn't seem as secure as an infant carrier. I'm sure its perfectly safe but that's just my opinion and I am certainly no car seat expert. My DS is now 9 months old and he's still in the infant carrier because it's convenient. When he turns 1 I will put him in the convertible car seat.
My infant seat is the Graco Snugride. I bought the adaptor for the Uppababy so that it was essentially transformed into a snap and go. I'm pretty sure other brands of strollers also have that option.
Also, as far as not registering because of the expiration date, I think that is a valid point but I would still register for 2 of them and then you can just exchange them later for newer ones (if you are registering at BBB. I think BRU has some strict return policy so it won't fly there). It's a lot of money to have to shell out later on.

This. I don't plan to buy a convertible until dd outgrows the infant seat.
In response to the original question, I have the Uppababy Mesa. I chose it because I wanted the Vista and didn't want to deal with an adaptor. I love the Vista but I'm not crazy about the Mesa. It is VERY heavy.

Same here. We'll get a convertible car seat once she outgrows the infant car seat.
We went for the Chicco Bravo travel system which includes the Chicco Keyfit 30 car seat.

Re: Car seat
I would suggest registering only for the infant seat. You never know how long your LO will be in it. My first was a peanut and I used the infant seat til she was almost 15 months. I didn't know better and the convertible seat sat in storage for over a year.
