Car Seat help - Used Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP or Graco Snugride 30??

I am so confused about which car seat to use!

My nephew just transitioned to a convertible car seat, so my brother gave me his Peg Perego 30-30 (Java/gray) car seat and 2 bases. It's under a year old, never been in an accident, great condition, but it's pretty heavy.

I received a Graco Snugride 30 (Zoey pattern) at my shower and the 2 bases. It feels so much lighter than the Peg Perego!

Is it silly to use the lighter, girl pattern car seat? Should I return the Graco & extra base and get a credit to BBB or should we just use the Graco?

Any BTDT moms have any comments on either car seat?

i've heard good things about both, so honestly, i would return the Graco and the bases and use the store credit for other things you might need.

I agree id return the graco and get the credit... Before u know it theyll grow out of it

Simply for financial reasons, I would return the Graco and keep the PP seat.

I have the Peg. I love it!!! It is a great seat, very padded and safe.

I can tell you I had the peg with DD and it was beyond heavy.....I couldn't carry her in it at about 5 mos!!!!! It was crazy!!!

Since you got the Peg Perego for free, I would use that one and return the snugride. I think (but not positive) that the Peg Perego has better ratings as well. I will say that my friend has the Peg Perego and a really big baby and that thing weighs a ton with him in it.

I would still get the graco, it stinks since the peg is free but these seats get heavy with kids in them! So IMO if it's starting out heavy for you I would switch!

I'm going for the Peg Perego. Despite all the negative reviews about how heavy it is the reason for the extra weight is the additional safety features and that's more important to me. Plus, it does score higher in safety ratings.

The Peg Perego is a nice car seat but it was too heavy for me. I tried them all out. Maybe return one of the bases and use both car seats. Or maybe you can use the extra car seat for one of your parents if they will ever be watching the baby.

I have the peg and hated it....soo heavy, and I felt like they were so upright in the car...i always worried about their heads falling forward when they were little..it make me crazy...

I have the graco for ds#3 and LOVE it!!!

And you don't find it too heavy? Even my brother said he would get a lighter one. I'm worried I won't be able to carry up the stairs in the peg!!!

I'd keep the one from your brother. Once babies hit about 15 lbs (for DD she was just over 5 months, but a lot of babies it's sooner) it's impossible to carry them in their infant seats anyway so it's not really worth worrying about that. You just stick the infant seat on the stroller/snap n go and use that everywhere.

I have the graco snugride (the 22 -- smallest one) and it's honestly way too heavy for me to carry with her in it more than about 15 feet at a time. And that seat is SUPER light. And I do weights and stuff at the gym -- I'm no wimp lol.

IMHO: Stick with the free one.

Oh, and there's no such thing as a "higher" safety rating when it comes to car seats. They are all either "safe" and have passed their inspections /tests or they are illegal. Some have extra features or padding and such, but all are equally as safe as far as for your child to be in as long as they are installed and used properly. Since you are probably inheriting this one, make sure you know how to install it, register it so you get any updates (you can call the company and let them know to put you on the registered list just on the off chance that it is recalled), and find out if it must be operated with the bar in the collapsed position (as opposed to over the baby's head). Some car seats do not function properly if the bar is on top of the baby while riding.
