Car Seat (infant) installation question
DH and I are ready to install the car seat. I checked our cars' owner's manuals, and they both say any place in the backseat is fine (we have the same SUV). I've read that the safest place in the backseat for a baby is most often the middle position, but now i'm reading that if you use the middle, you shouldn't use the latch system, although our SUVs have the latch system in all positions. Is there a way of knowing where the best place to install is? Should we install in the middle with the latch system, or belt system? Should we install behind the passenger seat with the latch system? Thanks

Re: Car Seat (infant) installation question
from what I have heard/read the passanger side is the next safest place after the middle- more crashes happen on the driver's side- I forget the statistic but it was significantly more

Re: Car Seat (infant) installation question
It might look like you have the latch in the middle, but a lot of times vehicles have right and left LATCH hooks that seem to overlap in the middle -- but in actuality, you would be using one left and one right hook to install the center seat.
You can enter your zip code on this web site and find out where you can get your car seat installed or inspected:
http://www.nhtsa.gov/cps/cpsfitting/Index.cfm
I'd follow what your manual says if you're going to do it yourself. We don't have a center seat in our car so we have DD behind the passenger seat, which we were told was the next best place.

Re: Car Seat (infant) installation question
No LATCh in center position. I do believe you can install with seatbelt though if you prefer the middle seating location. LATCh isn't safer than seatbelt if the seat is installed properly.

thank you. That's so strange. It has 6 icon decals going across the back seat.

It just may. I'm just not seeing it o the list http://thecarseatlady.wordpress.com/latch/center-latch/center-latch-complete-list/ which surprises me because our 2006 Vue has center latch......................
Your manual > that list though. If the manual of the vehicle ok's it then it should be OK.
