Car Seat Safety Question/head supports

Hi,

I'm planning a summer trip with my 18-month old, and have been thinking about car seat accessories.

Are the car seat head/neck supports really safe to use?
I'm thinking of getting this:
Kiddopotomus Infant & Toddler Head Cradler

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2967791

Product Description
This soft velour Infant and Toddler Head Cradler in pink from Kiddopotamus® keeps your child's head comfortably supported from birth through five years of age. It offers support just where little babies and napping toddlers need it: between the jaw line and shoulder, so heads don't flop uncomfortably forward or to the side. The machine washable Cradler adjusts in width as your child grows, so it is the only head support you will ever need. It attaches to harness straps with VELCRO® brand closure tabs to keep the cushions in place and has been crash-tested for safety.

Does anyone use this product or anything similar?

Thanks for your help!

This product, as well as all after market products are not recommended. When child safety seats are tested, they are tested as you buy them from the store. Products like this advertise they are tested, but there are no standards that are to be met.

If a product says that they pass federal standards, that would be great except for the fact there are no federal standards for after market products.

The fact that this product attaches to the straps is a bad thing. The straps cannot safely have any attachment.

Therefore, this product is not recommended or considered safe by the NHTSA Child Safety Seat curriculum.
