Carpet in Living Room Yay or Nay **Updated iwth Pic***

My living currently has pergo floors down which are beautiful. The problem is the room is on a slab and it is very cold when you walk around in socks or bare feet. It not a problem for me but I am thinking about the boys. The really have no where to sit and play on the floor since we do not have a den and its really to cold to sit on it..

What would you do? Can you post pictures of your livingroom with carpet..

TIA

**Here is a pict of my livingroom...Excuse the mess since it is from the day we moved in...How do you think an area rug would look in a rectangular room? There is not a lot of space between the couch and the entertainment center...

Re: Carpet in Living Room Yay or Nay

We're getting carpet installed in our L/R next week. Right now, we have plywood.

We'll have hardwood in my office, and the dining room. We are on the floor a lot, so I really don't like the idea of hardwood in the living room. Plus, DC jump off the couches, wrestle around, and run after each other. I think carpet is much safer for them.

Re: Carpet in Living Room Yay or Nay

I want to do the opposite. I have carpet now but want either tile or laminate flooring. We also have a slab.

Mostly because I have 2 dogs and they go in and out of the LR to go outside and the carpet is totally disgusting. I can't take it anymore.

Re: Carpet in Living Room Yay or Nay

I don't have a pic but we have carpet...

We have a fireplace and we're thinking long term - Christmases by the fire, cuddled up on the couch, kids on the floor - rolling around opening up presents. Carpet = cozy to us.

Re: Carpet in Living Room Yay or Nay

I would get a large area rug.

or

I would see about maybe pulling up the wood (gently), putting some kind of insulation underneath and reapplying

or

get something with radiant heat.

Re: Carpet in Living Room Yay or Nay

The previous owners had wall to wall carpet in the livingroom - we pulled it up. We now have gorgeous oak floors with a large area rug. DD runs all over but generally plays on the rug.

Re: Carpet in Living Room Yay or Nay

I would also do a large area rug. I think it's much easier to keep wood floors clean in a common area, than in a private area, like a bedroom.

I'm not a huge fan of W2W carpet, I would put a large area rug.

An area rug would look great there!

I'd get a rectangular one and place it under the couch so it sticks out towards the entertainment center but not under the entertainment center.

I totally agree. Maybe a 5'x7' rug would work for your area, but I really can't tell by the pick how big the room is. Maybe measure from a little under the couch to just before the entertainment center. GL! Chat Icon

Re: Carpet in Living Room Yay or Nay **Updated iwth Pic***

I have a 5x7 in my den. I would recommend that size. You could get an 8x10 and put some of it under the couch, but the price difference between a 5x7 and an 8x10 is usually pretty big

This rug is from Target and it was around $130 I think.

Just for reference, this is an 8x10 in my LR from Restoration Hardware. You can see it's a lot different. (My LR is arranged differently now).
