carpet or tile in rental apartment in your house?
We have a hi-ranch and we will be renting out the apartment. What would you put in the apartment, indoor/outdoor carpet, carpet tiles, ceramic tiles or linoleum (sp)? The apartment is right on the cement slab of the house, ground level. TIA!

Ours is carpeted, but that is they way we bought it. If I was starting from scratch, tile or wood would probably be a better choice because of spills and stains.

We used to rent our upstairs. The last tenant ruined the 2 year carpet with stains. I would use tile or laminate flooring.

We have a rental and our motto is low maintenance. I would put in tile. It's durable and holds up to abuse. We put in a commerical grade berber in the bedrooms and tile throughout the rest of the apartment.

Re: carpet or tile in rental apartment in your house?
well being that its on a slab i would put down a cheap carpet to keep the apartment warmer in the winter. if its too cold because of the tiles, it may be more expensive for you in the long run if the utilities are included in the rent.

I would put tile.... it will last longer and you dont have to worry about stains.

Tile will be the most durable and will stand up to abuse over the years. Carpet is the cheapest but worst choice because it stains, holds odors, and doesn't hold up over time with traffic.

We put commercial/economy carpeting in all our apartments - with the understanding that it is replaced for a new tenant, and then upkeep is up to the tenant.
