Isn't Cary where Martha Stewart built all those new homes? yup, DH and I saw all the models. it's a KB Home development and they are GORGEOUS! the one thing we didn't like is that's in the takeoff path of the Raleigh/Durham airport

Very pretty there, but its expensive not compared to LI
you can get a huge brand new house for less than $300K. IMO, that is a steal.

Re: Cary, North Carolina
I lived in NC for MANY years. Clayton, wake Forest, Apex are just outside Raleigh and really "country".
Cary was the NEW town (rich!!!! for NC) back in the early 90's. When the "Rich" people created their own subdivisions. Houses in the $500K and up (REALLY expensive for NC). Well, eventually Cary ran out of space (plus they don't have enough water in the summer!).
They created other "great" areas. Wakefield Plantation (North Raleigh) is one of them. Houses in the Millions and condos. With a golf range. It was supposed to be the new Cary and it is. I seriously considered buying a condo there when I lived in the area.
Great area to look at also...
West Raleigh: Glenwood Ave. towards Durham/Research Triangle park. Great subdivisions.
North Raleigh/Six Folks area.

Re: Cary, North Carolina
My parents live there, they relocated to that area after our wedding from Bethpage.
They live in the Morrisville/Preston area right nextdoor to CARY.
There are so many amazing homes in Preston.
I'm visiting them on monday with my son. So if anyone is close by and wants to meet up at the CaryTownCenter or something shoot me a FM.

OK here is her reply:
It is rated as one of the safest cities in the US recently. It is very beautiful, lots of upkeep, there isn't a bad neighborhood there. Cary is the place to live in the Triangle.
I have a friend who lives in Raleigh and she said Cary stands for 'containment area for relocated Yankees'
she said she prefers where she lives more - not as 'hyped'
This is very true about Cary. The other day someone asked me if I was from NY (they pick up my accent all the time) and when I said yes, she snottily said "Then you must live in Cary, right!?". When I said I lived in North Raleigh she was surprised.
I think Cary is a beautiful area and it is one of the safest places to live in the US but I fell in love with North Raleigh. We got a lot more for our money housewise and it seems more "community" oriented to me.
FM me if you have any questions. Not sure I can answer too much about Cary and I do not spend a lot of time there but I can try to find out the answers for you.
ETA - Wakefield is also an incredible area that is building up a lot. I love the Brier Creek area as I shop there ALL THE TIME and the houses they are building there are so beautiful.

Re: Cary, North Carolina
I lived in Cary - very briefly- when I moved south for a couple of years. It is a very nice area. From what I remember, at the time at least, it was one of the more "expensive" areas there (expensive being a realitive term of couse )
My brother lives in Raleigh - (near the state fair grounds and Hurricane's stadium). It's a little more rural by him, they love it.
My best friend lives nearby too in Morrisville. It's a really nice area - and growing everyday!
If we were to move, that is where I would want to go.
