Cat & Baby question..
Am I going about this the wrong way?
I put all the stuff in the baby’s room and plan to start painting this week. I’ve kept the door closed to that room since Sunday morning. It was the old living room and my 3 cats are all looking at the door wondering what’s up.
I was planning on keeping the cats completely out of that room from now until the baby’s been home for about 3months.
I was planning on taking a baby blanket, shirt, etc and introducing it to the cats same way I introduced the cats to each other.
Reasons: All of my cats are clawed All of my cats are jumpers (even the 10yr old diabetic) Our big guy (10yr old) sheds Our little ones (sister/brother) run like the wind when the mood strikes them Little boy likes to chew on things Big guy likes to scratch furniture (God help me now the nice new glider I have) The girl likes to lay on top of blankets, clothes and anything warm or piled up including humans. My whole home is carpeted and they track little bits of litter here and there (very annoying). Little boy is VERY vocal from time to time for no good reason.
Any input is appreciated

Re: Cat & Baby question..
When we set up the nursery I decided not to wash anything at first, and let my cat explore around....he sniffed at the toys and such, and a few times, jumped in the crib...we always told him no, and he learned that it wasn't his playspace. A few weeks before DS was born, I washed everything and he hasn't been in the crib ever again. He will however go in and explore still. My cat also still has his claws, but has been VERY gentle with DS, even when DS pulls his tail! We just kept on introducing them to each other each time one of them entered the same room. Now they are buddies!

Re: Cat & Baby question..
I have 2 cats and 1 dog. We've always kept the nursery door open so that they could go in and explore on their own. For a long time, they had no interest in that room.
However since i'm now at almost 37 weeks and have been in the room more putting stuff away, the cats have been following me in there. I have yet to wash the bedding, although i could if i wanted since they have no interest in the crib. I really thought my one cat would have made that his new home, but he hasn't.
i will say that my other cat has made his new laying spot on top of the changing pad. So i will need to wash that cover again.
But that's really it. Otherwise they go in there and sit on the window sills (sp??).
Although my cat Rocky couldn't resist his new sitting spot... Not that i blame him because it fits him perfectly!

Re: Cat & Baby question..
I have 3 cats also... I don't know if this is the right thing to do, but they were very curious when I kept the door closed to the baby's room (it used to be their room - where their toybox was). So I let them go in and see everything - get used to the new stuff.... and then it's not such a big deal. I have also been playing some "baby crying" sound clips so that they get used to this noise.
