cat only veterinary recommendations

I have a 14 year old siamese mix who has hyperthyroidism. I'm in the Smithtown area. My vet keeps increasing her dose of Methimazole and told me she doesn't require blood work again for 6 months. I have asked about radioactive iodine treatment but they feel it causes hypothyroidism. I would like a second opinion. I'm not sure if her age is a factor in their thought process but I'm noticing excess vomitting, hair loss and red irritation on top of her ears. They keep giving her steroid shots for those symptoms but I'm concerned about constantly doing that when she also has a heart murmur. I read that those issues can mean she still isn't on the right dose of methimazole but 6 months is a long time to wait to find out I would think. While we try to stay realistic that she is not a young lady we want her with us and healthy as long as possible. Thanks in advance for recommendations.

I know there is a cat vet in farmingdale near 110
opposite the movie theatre (it's on the street where the diner/gas station is across from the farmingdale movie theatre) It would be on your left as you went away from the diner that's on the corner. Ive never been there--just passed it before!
