Catholic wedding question
Is there anyway to have the Catholic Church (RC) recognize a marriage that is not performed in a church? In case my syntax is off, will a Catholic Priest or Deacon marry a couple outside of a church?

yes, but I think it depends on the religion of who they are marrying. I have been to a few catholic-jewish weddings at catering halls where a priest (who has a pulpit) and a rabbi do the ceremony together and the church recognized the wedding, they had to do precana, etc. Not sure if they would do it if both people are catholic or one was protestant.

No. It will not be recognized as the sacrament of marriage if it is not performed within the church.
Beware of officiants who say it will be recognized - it will not.

Thanks...I'm Catholic and thought that was the case but said person claims, " she knows someone" as if this is an under-the-table sale of something that fell off of a truck.

Catholic wedding question
for a Roman Catholic, since marriage is a sacrament, it must be celebrated in a church or a chapel ... my DH & I were married by a bishop from the American National Catholic Church in a garden - the bishop is a Franciscan and our marriage is recognized as a sacrament with the church but the Roman Catholic church is not fond of the ANCC ...

I stand corrected. I never heard of it being recognized outside of a church/chapel.

According to the Vatican website, Canon Law 1118, I just ready that an exception MAY be made for a Catholic marrying outside of their religion BUT that the wedding will only be certified/recognized by the other officiant.

We were told no by our parish so we opted for an outdoor ceremony with a blessing by a priest after we were already married in a civil ceremony. We could have had a third ceremony inside a church to make us legit in the church's eyes but really didn't care so long as our kids could still be baptized.

If both are catholic it is not recognized. If one is anything other than catholic, then it is recognized by the church.
I found this whole thing to be ridiculous and was happily married in our wedding hall. Opted out of the mini church ceremony after. No need in my eyes.

My sister was married at a catering hall by a priest which she thought was recognized by the church. Turns out a few years later when it was time to baptize their son the church wouldn't allow them to do it unless they had a marriage IN the church so that it was recognized as a sacrament. So they did have to do that before they were able to have their son baptized.

wow, strict church, I have a friend who was married by a judge and was able to baptize her kids no problem. guess it depends on the church.

Lol. Maybe it is true. I didn't think it was at all possible but supposedly the priest who married my cousin somehow fudged some paperwork to make this happen. The priest was a family friend of her DH. Or my cousin lied to my aunt and uncle about it to get them off her back about not having it in a church, who knows? I guess a shady priest was the lesser of the two evils in their eyes,  .

It does depend on the church.
There are plenty of unwed parents who are able to baptize no problem. I could never understand why some churches are so strict and other go with the flow of changing times.

This. My friend had a priest do an outdoor wedding at a country club. Years later she admitted that they had previously gotten married privately in the church since the outdoor wedding wouldn't be official.
I still think it's shady for a priest to do the 'fake' wedding outdoors

No, a catholic priest/deacon will not marry outside of the church b/c marriage is a sacrement. But if the couple were to marry outside of the church and wished to have the church recognize their marriage, they could arrange to go in and sacrementalize (? I might have nade up this word) their marriage with a priest or deacon.
ETA that MOST churches do not require the parents to be married in the church in order to have their child baptized. The only requirement is that at least 1 of the God parents has to be a catholic who has made ALL of his/her sacrements (I know bc a family member works for a church and is in charge of scheduling baptisms). If you are given a hard time about baptizing a child, it ALWAYS pays to call a different parish.
