Cautiously Optimist?--9/22 Update

UPDATE - 9/22-Monday

Just got the call. The numbers dont look good...they went up but they did not double. Friday I was 219 and today I am only somewhere in the low 300s (I forgot the friggin number, I was too upset). So they are going to have me come in Friday and do a sonogram and see if there is anything in there. Oh well...I kinda knew things werent good right?Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
Thank you everyone that was praying for meChat Icon Chat Icon

I have been bleeding since Friday and AF has been getting progressively worse (heavy, cramping, clotting) TMI sorryChat Icon

As I posted, my beta on Monday was 26Chat Icon and my progesterone and estrogen was very low even with the suppositories and estrogen pills.

Today, I went for my second beta. Met with the doctor that reviewed the results from Monday and said "ive seen a six turn into a healthy baby."Chat Icon I never know if people are blowing smoke up my azz...so any way he wanted to see the numbers double today...i got the results and it went up to 68 and was told my progesterone and estrogen are up and looking great...Chat Icon

Now back to the smoke up the azz thing....can someone give me the real scoop? Honestly, how do these numbers look because to me it still seems VERY low. I dont know if I should be sad or happy or optimistic. I dont even know if I CAN be optimistic for fear that there is bad news at the end of the week. My 5dt was on 9/6 and with all this bleeding and cramping cant understand how the number is doubling. So ladies...any answers out there? Any similar experiences....good or bad (I'm still a doubting thomas so dont worry about the bad)?

UPDATE:

Still cramping, AF, etc. (I'll save you the gory details). From 64 on Wednesday my beta is up to 219. And of course the nurse goes on to tell me that I should really not celebrate yet...to just "hang in there."Chat Icon So I'm "hanging." I dont know where my numbers should be, I dont know when I should call relatives, I dont know what to feel. I guess my original post still stands..."cautiously optimistic?" Everyone's well wishes and prayers are so appreciated and mean so much. Each time the numbers go up I get a little more optimistic and DH is Chat Icon so hard for us....keep up those prayers everyone...apparently someone is listening!!! Uh oh...i was starting to get excited there for a second...Chat Icon

I have no advice, but your beta did more than double between Monday and today which is a good sign. Many, many prayers coming your way! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Cautiously Optimist?

The bleeding would concern me. What did the RE say about the bleeding?

I agree.
Also, I know a lot of people who have bled (heavy) during their pgs and went on to have healthy babies. My mom bled extremely heavily when she was pg w/ my brother (early on) and he's 35 now. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Cautiously Optimist?

First off Chat Icon ! I believe you are going to the same RE I went to (RSOFNY)....Before I got pg. this time around- my last preganacy was a chemical (1st beta was 16, next like 19 etc....) They told me the same thing, about low betas becoming viable pregnancies and then i went on the web and looked also (IVF Connections.com had quite a bit of success stories) so I don't think they are blowing smoke...I definately would not give up hope on this just yet- The fact that your #'s rose the way they did is definately a step in the right direction....And the fact that you conceived period w/ IVF is a huge step in itself (I know thats hard to hear now, but its true- it means it can work)...I know exactly what you are going through- it was me in March (just lower #'s) Try to hang in there Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Cautiously Optimist?

I would be very cautiously optomistic. My beta started low at 58. It doubled at the 2nd beta check. My RE didn't check again until they scheduled an ultrasound. For thosse 2 weeks I searched and searched the internet for positive outcomes with low beginning betas and there were some out there so it's not impossible. The bleeding would be a concern but, my friend had very heave bleeding too and she went on to have twin boys.

At my ultrasound, there was nothing there. Possibly an empty sac but that's all. At 7 weeks, my beta was only 300.

So, to be honest, I would say to be cautiously optomistic. Are they going to do another beta or wait for an ultrasound? Chat Icon

I had two chemical pregnancies and both times my progesterone was very low. If your progesterone has increased and your beta has doubled, there is a chance. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Cautiously Optimist?

There is a possibility that you are experiencing "vanishing twin" - could have been twins but one didn't make it and that is why you are now bleeding.

Re: Cautiously Optimist?

I just really caught up with this. I've had my fair share of chemical pregnancies, but yours sounds more promising than mine was. How was your progesterone?
