changing doc-pls help- need rec for syosset area
hey- im hoping someone can help me
i havent 'come out' yet, so i cant ask anyone i know, so i figured this might be the next best thing...
im not a huge fan of my current doctors office. i chose this particular practice because they accept my insurance (GHI), they are affiliated with north shore manhasset, and because their 2 office locations are great for me- 1 is near work (queens) and the other is near home (syosset).
at the office right now, NOBODY answers phones. theres even an option where it says "press 1 if this is an emergency, if youre a patient in labor, or if youre a doctor" and Still no answers. phone just riiiiiiiings and rings and rings.
secondly, i called 2 weeks ago to change an appointment, and some nasty chick got on the phone and said IMPOSSIBLE. COME IN WHEN YOU WERE SCHEDULED. meanwhile, when my doctor called me back (for a concern i had) she said to me "why dont you change your appointment and come in sooner"- yeah, ok....
appointments are always always late. i sneak out of work early to get there by my scheduled time, and they are Always at least half an hour late- at Least.
last, i was told at my first appointment (a month ago) that theyd have the h1n1 vaccine by the first week of october. my next appt is next week and i was hoping to get the shot, but they dont have it.
basically, i feel like im just a number at this place and id really like to change doctors. does anyone have a recommendation for a really great Female obgyn anywhere near me? syosset, plainview, bethpage, that accepts GHI?
sorry this was so long! also, is it 'bad' to change doctors 3-months in??

My Doctor is a woman, who delivers at NSUH, but she's in Bayside. The do have LATE office hours twice a week though.. if that works for you, let me know and I will give you the info.
I also want to say that if you are not comformtable with your Dr, you should most definitely change! She will be helping you bring your child into this world and seeing you at your most vulnerable, you need to be comfortable!

If you are not happy, I would definitely switch. You still have a long way to go.

I would switch if you aren't happy.
I just wanted to add - they are behind in the distribution/production of the H1N1. A lot of Dr. offices did get the vaccine in the beginning of October but, it was the mist that isn't recommended for pregnant women. Only 10% of the vaccines that were supposed to be available at this point are available.

I agree that most offices didn't have the H1N1 in early October, so I wouldn't leave based on that. But the other things you mentioned may be reason enough to leave if you would be more comfortable somewhere else. i live in White Plains, so I have no suggestions, but I can tell you that I always wait and my practice too. And friends with different Drs have told me the same. I think OB/GYN offices book appointments too close together as a general rule. But the not answering the phones would p!ss me off too.
