Re: Changing to Convertible Car Seats?

Good question!! I'm assuming whenever you want, right? I think my convertible car seat starts at 5lbs and goes up from there. So maybe when it gets to tough to carry the baby in the infant carrier. I haven't transitioned yet and DD is 4 1/2 months.

Whenever you want- either after the baby outgrows the infant seat or you can use a convertible seat from the get go. Chat Icon

Really depends on your personal preference and your child's size.

DD#1 I had the regular snugride and I kept her in it until she hit the height limit at 11 months.

DD#2 I have the snugride 32 - I think DD is about to outgrow it (she will have her 1 year Ped appt - tomorrow - so I will find out how tall she is). DD#2 is 13 months now so I got a lot of use out of it - I ONLY carry her in and out of the car - stores I take her out of the seat. But it has been easier to get to the car with my just turned 3 year old with DD#2 in the seat than trying to chase two.

I have friends who switched their child at 4 months and others who were still using their seats at 16 months - so if you can carry them and don't object you can use the seat until your child outgrows it by height or weight (usually they hit the height requirement 1st).

DS's infant seat weight limit was 22 lbs and 29 inches from what I remember. I got a convertable car seat about 2-3 months ago because I could not handle the infant seat with him in it with my back. We just got DH a convertable for his car because DS is about to out grow the length limit on the infant seat.

We switched when DS was 4 months old. He was 19lbs and I couldnt carry it anymore, and he was really uncomfortable anyway. The convertible is much better now. He's about 21lbs now.

it depends but for most people, the transition when it gets too heavy Chat Icon

for both of my kids that was between 5-6 months but I know some parents keep them in until a year or even older

Re: Changing to Convertible Car Seats?

it depends on the height/weight limits on your seat. I did it at about 11 months because Sash seemed too tall for it, even though we had about an inch or so to go before she met the limit.
