I absolutely love this name I got tears eyed when I read it, so many people said they wouldn't use Diana so I was shocked and thrilled when I saw it. It is a classic beautiful name for a princess

I agree, beautiful name! I also love that it honors so many important people in their lives. In my culture, we name our children after grandparents, unless we don't like the name! 
From what I have read, they did not need the Queen's permission for the name they chose but out of respect waited to tell her in person before announcing.

Her sister's middle name is Charlotte. It is the female version of Charles and there are many royals over the years (many long ago) that are Charlotte (including a queen). So it could any number of reasons why.
I like it. Charlotte is my mother's name and I have been running into quite a few charlotte's lately. Elizabeth is my middle name so I partial there too.
I think it is nice they used family names. But even if they didn't I still like the name.

Just saw the royal birth certificate!
Catherine's middle name is Elizabeth. So really Charlotte Elizabeth are the middle names of Catherine and Pippa. With Diana being a nod to princess diana. So really we will never know just who this little princess is really named after. Her mothers side or fathers?
Very clever.
Eta Elizabeth is also Carole middletons middle name.
