Re: Cheapest place for paint?
IMO dont buy cheap paint. I have used all kids and I think BM is by far the best but also the most expensive. I just painted my entire house (we just moved in) with Behr from home depot and I have always had a good experience with it....it covers pretty good and is half the cost of BM.
The really cheap paints dont cover and you end up spending more money cause you need more than 2 coats

Re: Cheapest place for paint?
i would recommend Behr too. We just painted the entire house in flat enamel. IT covers great, and sometimes home depot has specials on it.

Re: Cheapest place for paint?
I personally HATE Behr. I hate the coverage. I bought it once in white. We used a Behr primer and 4 coats of paint. You could STILL see the tape on the drywall.
I did not save any money by not buying BM. I had to keep buying paint to add coats.

Re: Cheapest place for paint?
we had to paint a bedroom and we didn't need to use the best stuff it really didn't mater. we bought gillden from home depot and it worked well, and it was very cheap. I've used BM a lot and i didn't notice that much of a difference.
Ralph lauren paint is the worst! its not that cheap and it covers the worst!

Re: Cheapest place for paint?
i really think its prep of the wall that affects the paint. I wouldn't go cheap cheap but i heard good reviews on Behr, Valspar, Glidden

Re: Cheapest place for paint?
I always search for coupons - you can usually find them for Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore.
I do know if you go on Sherwin Williams' web site and play with the color tools they have, then email yourself the information, the email comes through with a coupon, usually for 15% off!

I agree! If the walls aren't taped correctly......the paint obviously isn't going to come out perfect.
Valspar (Lowes) and Behr's are great paint brands.....and reasonable. Never a problem and we've had lots of walls to paint.

Re: Cheapest place for paint?
BM always has coupons online & they sell a budget friendly paint that I used in our kitchen & bathroom. I believe it's called 'super hide'
BM is the best & with the super hide you can't go wrong with spending!!

Re: Cheapest place for paint?
i used bm and got horrible results finally realized why
1) after spakling (sp) wall make sure you wipe down the walls two times (not just a quicky one time)
2) make sure you vacuum all the dust from the floor and close off the room if doing other projects
3) tape correctly!
4) apply the coats in a even coverage (do not press down hard on the rollers) and use good wool rollers. When using a new roller make sure you use duct tape and wrap it around it and pull off all the nap otherwise you will have a texture and its not pretty! Make sure you use well cleaned/dried rollers or new every time you start up again. Rollers with any form of dust/dirt go onto your walls and destroy it!
5) do not do anything to the room until a day has passed with the heat on when your completed.
We had issues because i did a quick wipe down, then we would start to sand the walls in another room and it traveled into the painted room and just destroyed everything. Dust on the floor would kick up and get into the paint as well. Also bad roller choices/habbits so my expensive BM now is marking up.

I have used a lot of different paints over the years- and my favorite by far is the Easy Living by Sears- its inexpensive and the coverage is perfect imo

Re: Cheapest place for paint?
We've used Valspar, available at lowes and less pricey than say Benjamin Moore and we swear by it. It has FANTASTIC coverage, looks great. Love it!

I was going to suggest this. Also Dutch Boy at sears.
We had to paint our entire house and used mostly these two and had no issues with coverage at all.

Re: Cheapest place for paint?
I also suggest Sears-it is a good middle ground if you can't splurge, but don't want to waste money on really cheap crappy paint that you have to re-do anyway.
