We just put one coat of BEHR Velvety Merlot and Bone White on the wall to see what it will look like....I know it is blotchy but that will be taken care of.
What do you think?
Scott
Velvety Merlot was our second choice in color. We used Estate Vinyard was a shade lighter and we went with that. Yes, very blotchy at first. Second (good) coat will take care of that.
nice choice

LOVE the trim and the colors. may i make a suggestion though? you want the eye to be drawn upward w/o a lot of choppiness (sp?). to acheive this seamless effect, i would reverse the order and paint the bottom burgandy and the top the beige. w/ the lighter color on the top, it will flow nicely w/ the ceiling color and make the height of the room appear taller.
we opted to paint the burgandy on the top and tan on the bottom because our wainscotting is 3/4 and wanted the burgandy to be more of an accent color and not the primary color.
am i making sense? I def understand what youre saying, its true when you put a dark color like a merlot on top of a soft color- the eye doesnt see the soft only the dramatic and part of the wall will get lost and the room will be perceived smaller, especially with a white ceiling connecting to the merlot color. Love the colors though, set up I agree with skew.
edited to say, If you really love the color which I cant not see, I would paint the entire wall the merlot and make the tirm and moulding white or a navajo white and use beige decor like the cushions on the chairs/curtians with red/merlot tones of flowers with a beige base ( fabric mill) use beige accents. If you paint the trim navajo white I would paint the ceiling that color too
i TOTALLY agree

I think the room will be too dark if we paint the whole room the dark red.
The table we have is a dark wood and the chairs have a cream colored cushion on them Scott
i disagree. it will really make the trim pop not to mention additional interest.

Its your room, so you need to go with what you like. It sounds like you have spent a lot of time planning & I'm sure it will be what you wanted.

Re: Check out one wall of our dining room
Believe me I appreciate all of your advice, but Danielle and I are really set on doing the velvety merlot on top of the wall, the bone white on the bottom, and the trim a semi gloss Pure White.
I went to get the paint yesterday, and the tinted primer for the top of the wall - Its funny cause its Pink

scott..it will look great as we have our trim in white and estate vinyard in the whole room. with proper lighting, it will not be dark and the shade of the red/burngdey will make it feel home and cozy....

Scott - our dining room is a dark cranberry and we did the entire walls, the ceiling is flax, and the woodwork is a nice creamy white. We also have cherry wood floors and cherry furniture (not the dark dark cherry), but it looks great. We get tons of light in and the room is not too dark at all.

thats the way its gonna look? I love your ideas and please dont get mad at me but the only thing I saw in that pic was the red, I missed the trim detail and bottom half of wall. but again when the entire room is done Im sure it will have a different affect also along when its furnished.

I think you've done a beautiful job. Great taste! when you ask OR show people what you are doing that is an open door asking what do you think- OPINIONS are given, and no one is saying it looks bad! We are just giving suggestings.
I think you missed a few WORDS on his first post- WHAT DO YOU THINK

I dont think it turned out bad, its always good to get opinions when you are doing something. and its also hard to get a good visual with only 1 wall done too. the colors are great though.

Re: Check out one wall of our dining room
Don't you worry I will post tons of pics when it is done - and I dont mind the advice, believe me. Danielle and I like the way the wall look with the merlot on top, the bone white on the bottom, and the trim in white. Right now the trim is in primer, but after the walls are all painted egg shell and the trim, and moulding is painted semi gloss, it is really going to Pop. Also wait until we put the flooring down.....

Scott See thats what I mean, when its all done I bet its going to look AWESOME. its hard to tell with a picture too than in person, and hard well for me at least not to be distracted by the other colors in that picture too. How much more have you done?

Re: Check out one wall of our dining room
Since then I started priming the walls, painted the cielings, sanded, and spackled the upstairs bedroom, and bought more paint and tinted primer etc.....
I picked out a bunch of colors on line that I like for the other rooms, and I am waiting for Danielle to take a ride with me to home depot to make her decisions....
Tomorrw we should be getting our kitchen counter that we ordered from Lowes.

Re: Check out one wall of our dining room
Scott sorry for adding my two cents in... But you mentioned using a pink primer, I am actually using a BM color similar to that and my painter said you need to you a deep gray primer and if u dont u might end up doing up to 4 or 5 coats before it gets even. I would go and ask someone in a paint store and not home depot b/c they dont know anything. Then again everyone has their own theorys on paint and painting. Either way everything you guys did looks great so far and when you are done you can come to my place and start here

Re: Check out one wall of our dining room
Yeah Sure I would love to come by and do the work on your house - Let me think of some rates lol.....Actually my father in law who did most of the work on the house is going to start doing some side work if you are interested.
The Pink paint is actually Primer with Velvety Merlot in it.....
