Checking accounts with no minimum balance required...
I'm looking to get rid of my Citibank checking account.
Recommend your bank where I can open a checking account with either no minimum or a low minimum balance required.
Even better if your bank offers some sort of cool bonus for opening a new account.
Thanks!

Re: Checking accounts with no minimum balance required...
@ TD you need to keep $100.00 in your checking acct to not be charged a fee.
I believe it's $15.00 if you get charged.

Re: Checking accounts with no minimum balance required...
Chase used to be free but now they have "conditions" for it to be free. One condition includes having direct deposit. As long as you have that, it's free! You also need a minimum monthly balance but I"m not sure how much it is.

Re: Checking accounts with no minimum balance required...
teachers fed credit union is a $1 minimum (for checking - savings may be more)
You don't have to be a teacher anymore - anyone in Nassau or Suffolk can get accounts

I second Teachers Federal Credit Union. Everyone in my family as well as DH's family bank there. I have been a member since 1994 and never been unhappy. We have also gotten several car loans and have been very pleased with their rates (they give you a reduced rate if you sign up for autowithdrawl from your acct).

Capital One is $1 I have TFCU also, but they charge me for ATM transactions on top of the other banks fees when not using a TFCU one. They told me I had to maintain $1000 in checking in order to avoid those ATM fees.
Capital One is great. Love the online banking. Plus I accumulate reward points.

yes, if you have direct deposit there isnt a fee. I just went through this with them, because they started charging me a monthly service fee because I didnt keep the minimum in the account and my job doesnt offer direct deposit. capital One offers free account and TD Bank does as well, as long as you keep $100 in there.HTH

Yes it is - and you get charged even if you go less than $2 below that amount for one day in your statement cycle (DH doesn't balance his checkbook and went under a few times!)

Re: Checking accounts with no minimum balance required...
I second FCUs
I have Citibank and get no fees because my company and theirs have a relationship. One I use to benefit me. So I'm not sure if you work for a company that has such employee perks but you may want to ask. We got reduced mortgage rates with Wells, free checking with Citi and reduced Cell phone bills all through my company.
I also have an FCU, which I love.

I have to second Capital One. I have all those reward points and trying to figure out what I want right now. And there are so many branches around so it's easy to get my $$ out as I need it from the ATM or teller.

I third Cap One. Very easy to deal with and the rewards add up fast.
