Chicken Pox vaccine question - re contagious?
Ok so my DD got her vaccine Thursday. She has been fine, few small pimples erupted (very very tiny) not sure if shot related or coincidence. About 5-6.
Ok...SO other than that fine.
We are supposed to be going to a bday party this week (1 weeks after shot).
Its a toddler party so I am sure most kids have been vaccinated but there will be a 5 month old there.
Should DD not go? Will she be contagious bc she had the shot? I am planning on calling my pediatrician tomorrow but wanted to throw this out there now.
I will be kinda ****** that the ped didnt inform me of this prior to the shot. She basically said minor reactiosn but never mention if my DD would be contagious or not and I am an IDIOT and didnt event hink to ask that

I believe they claim that you're not contagious, but honestly I wouldn't risk exposing a baby that's 1.5 months to it. It would just be an unnecessary headache for that poor mamma. I would be upset if I was that mom and you brought your kiddo to the party. JMO

Re: Chicken Pox vaccine question - re contagious?
It is a live vaccine and can be passed on for 4-6 weeks. My mom has cancer and is getting chemo, and is not allowed to see DS for 6 weeks following any live vaccines since he can pass it on to others.

I just edited my post...I made it clearer. The baby is 5 months NOT 1.5 months

Right, that i knew already. I am an oncology nurse and we tell immunocompromised patients that. But I wasnt sure if it was that same case with a 5 month old.
ETA..so sorry about your mom

Re: Chicken Pox vaccine question - re contagious?
Saw your correction. Personally if it was my DD that was the 5 mo old, I don't think I'd mind. Is it the host's child? If it is I'd probably just run it by her first and let her decide. Is it considered any different than if she (the 5 mo old) was exposed to a LO who was vaccinated but didn't develop a rash?

Shes not contagious. Im pregnant and DD had her vaccination 2 weeks ago. I asked my ped, my OB and my sister who is also a ped and all of them said it was fine.

AWW! Thakns for your answer. I appreciate it. I am going to call peds tomorrow to be sure but I am glad that most likely she is not contagious. I would never want to expose another child.

Not sure. But see my DD didnt have any reaction. Beginning to think the tiny pimples it had nothing to do witht he pox vaccine. Thanks for your response

Re: Chicken Pox vaccine question - re contagious?
I researched this alot and asked the ped about this as well prior to getting my DS vaccinated. From what I understand if the child has a chicken pox reaction to the shot (which can happen) it can be contagious.
