Here's the situation. I have insurance through Oxford. I don't plan on enrolling the baby in that plan after she is born. I plan on enrolling her in Child Health Plus (that's what I have for my son). So I'm confused as to how this works. Do I apply right after the baby is born and they make the coverage retroactive to cover her nursery/hospital care? What do I tell the ped. when I go for the follow up appt after she is born? That I'm waiting for a card? My son is 8 and he has only had CHP for a few years so I didn't have to do this when he was born.

I read in my oxford handbook that the baby is covered for care in the hospital, but when I called to confirm, she told me no, that's only if I plan on actually enrolling my child within 31 days of her being born. I told her I don't, I'm going with another policy and she said they won't pay for any nursery or hospital care then. It kind of conflicts with what my book says, but she said that's a new york state law or something.
