Re: Child Life Insurance
I think child life insurance covers the death of the child. I think life insurance for the parent with the children as beneficiaries should accomplish is what you want.

This. When DH and I signed up for life insurance in case anything happened to either one of us, DD was signed up to. hers is $10,000, i never knew about child life insurance until then, i felt weird signing her up but DH said we should.

Re: Child Life Insurance
I've never heard of anyone taking out life insurance on their child. I may be totally off here but I could never bring myself to do it! I think you mean regular life insurance for yourself though, so if something should happen, your child will be financially covered.

Re: Child Life Insurance
When DH and I got life insurance we didn’t have DS. But once he was born we added him on as a ryder and it was so inexpensive. I can’t remember the exact amount and I should since I work in a insurance office.
But I wanna say we paid less than $100 for the year. The ryder is for the just in case something happened. While I hope and pray I won’t need it but if god forbid it did, how would I pay for everything?
The last thing I would wanna do is to be making payments on a credit card or to a funeral home monthly.

Re: Child Life Insurance
While its crazy and does sound odd to many to take life insurance out on a child, its something to consider.
Most parents do that these policies to have something in force that can be a policy for their future/family after age 18. Most of the policies are paid in full at that point and can be borrowed against if ever needed.
Of course it can serve for protection of the child, but it can also guarantee insurability....because truth is, you never know what can happen- ex: cancer, diabetes.
Illness do come and unfortunately at any age.
HTH.

Re: Child Life Insurance
I have a policy on DS through Gerber Life Insurance. Very economical plans.
DH and I also have policies on ourselves with DS as a beneficiary should something ever happen to us.

Re: Child Life Insurance
life insurance your child is a very important thing to get. If they get injuried and can not otherwise get life insurance on their own later, this is a great safety net. Also they can pull on it in the event of serious illness (god forbid).
I have mine through my office for only $10,000 but its transferable to her after she's 18.

This.
We pay .90/biweekly for 10k for each kid through DH's job.
