Children who have gluten allergies
I think I may have posted this before, but where do you shop and what do you feed them?
Kristopher will be 11 months on the 15th. All he is on right now is baby food, which I have found does contain gluten in many dinners, and puffed rice.
How hard will it be to find him food?
Not that he will know the difference, but will it taste the same? Would I be able to switch everyone on to a gluten free diet without them knowing (ie DH and Juliette)?

Re: Children who have gluten allergies
One of my client's has Celiac's disease. IMHO the stuff tastes horrible! I think your family will def. know the difference. I would shop for her in health food stores but it was very expensive. Trader Joes, Fairway, Stop n Shop and Waldbaums have gluten free stuff too. Do a search on line there are a ton of websites that you can order directly from. It is not cheap though.

Re: Children who have gluten allergies
My SIL has celiac disease and unfortunately, you can taste teh difference in most foods. Although your DS is young so he might not realize the difference. Alot of stores have started to carry some gluten free items but Whole Foods has alot and Trader Joes does too.

Re: Children who have gluten allergies
My DS does not have gluten allergies, but I work with many kids that do. I agree with a pp that the best places to shop are Fairway, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Fairway has almost a whole aisle devoted to this, and more food in the frozen food section.
Some good frozen products that carry gluten free: Ians Dr. Praegers Van's
They make everything from wheat/gluten free chicken nuggets (Ians and they're really good too!) to frozen waffles.

Whole Foods has a large selection of bakery products as well as frozen items (such as pizza, breads, etc.) My Shop Rite also has a bunch of stuff but I don't know if they all do.

Trader Joe's also provides a list of all of the products they carry. I think it also has the aisle number for each item.

Re: Children who have gluten allergies
Thank you allllllllllllllllll so much.
Where is Uncle Guiseppe's? That one I have never heard of... He is also soy intolerent, but he tested negative for a milk allergy. Once I stopped nursing and the soy formula, he stopped crying...

Re: Children who have gluten allergies
My sister has Celiac's disease... there are lots of places that offer gluten free menus nowadays.... I know DaVinci's pizzeria in Island Park makes gluten free pizza and Cafe Baldo in Bellmore has an entire italian food gluten free menu.... he may be too young for this, but people with this allergy has become more common... now at family meals, we just cook with rice flour and rice pasta.... FM if you want more info.... :)
