chilly fall weather and car seats.. dumb q re: logistics w outerwear?
chicago was a nippy 50 degrees this morning when i had to make a run to walmart...brr!
i took dd in a fleece hoodie and couldn't help but think - what's the procedure for jackets and car seats? i remember hearing that jackets/coats are not recommended to be worn by infants in their car seats, but how does it work when it gets cold outside? i could see myself warming up the car and putting DD in the car inside our garage, but what about when we get to our final destination? do i park the car, hop in the back and put her jacket on? and then when we're ready to come back i put her in the car, take her jacket off and snap her in the car seat? how come i can wear my jacket and use a seatbelt but they can't?
i never took a car seat safety class so all these questions are new to me...if anyone has any advice or linkys to a site i'd appreciate it

I always zipped her coat OVER the carseat straps, so unzip the zacket, buckle them into the seat and then zip the jacket ovet the straps....

Jackets are a bad idea because the can compress in an accident, leaving plenty of space for DC to come out of the seat. Adults are bigger, and we sit in the seat differently, so it's not quite the same problem.

I bought a timberland fleece for DS. I have a north face fleece and it's really warm and light weight. (They don't make them in DS size or I would have bought him one too!) I think if you get a good fleece it's warm enough for the trip from car to destination in most cases. (hats and gloves for a little colder) I also make sure DS has a few layers on as well. When it gets really cold, then I will probably throw the coat on in the back seat before we leave the car.
