NPR- car accident and insurance??
DH was rear-ended on the parkway this week. not his fault at all. called the police and had accident report filed. the back of his car is dented, cracked, and hanging off. the other people's insurance will not start the claims process until they hear from their client or get the accident report (takes 2 weeks) we need the car fixed because we are afraid part of it is going to fall off. is this normal???? our insurance said to go through them

Can you go through your own insurance company? It will get done quicker and then they will go after the other party for the damages they incurred.

You might not have to pay the deductible but if you do..you will get it all back. timeline I dont know...every company is different. At least your car will be fixed.

Thanks so much for your advice. i truly appreciate it. this whole thing is nothing but a headache. Think we are just going to go through our insurance since the car really isn't in good driving condition. thanks again

Re: NPR- car accident and insurance??
Just adding $.02
You may not get 'all of it back'
Its always assumed you will but to be truly cautious I want to warn you if their insurance company argues their settlement would have been less then that porporation that your insurance company decided to overpay may not be reimbursed. So if the repairs were more expensive than that other company could have/would have used then your insurance company may/may not pass that on to you.
That being said, I'd suggest using your own ins company. Most may not even charge the deductible if there's an open claim already with the other carrier.
Best of Luck!
