Chimney Liner
Well it looks like we will need one. The boiler guy was here today cleaning out where the flue goes to the chimney (we had been seeing soot) and part of the clay liner was crumbling.
We'll find out just how damaged it is tomorrow when the chimney people come, but I hear the way to go is Stainless steel now.
Anyone have this done recently?

Re: Chimney Liner
Also just and FYI they cannot charge you tax on this. If a company tries to charge you tax on this they are scamming you. I called the state to verify this when we went through it because one company said, this is a non-taxable item in their literature and some of the others we charging us for it.

Re: Chimney Liner
Thanks! If you don't mind, what were the cost ranges you rec'd? You can FM if you like.
RE: Tax Yup what it is, is its a Capital Improvement. You have to complete and sign a Capital Improvement form ST-124 for them to not charge the tax. If they do not have a form on file for you then they actually have to charge the sales tax but of course if they collect it they have to turn it over NYS. So unless they can somehow totally hide receiving the tax I don't think they are scamming its just that homeowners need to know that any capital improvement (not repair) to their home is non taxable. Sorry for rambling... this could be another whole thread LOL
