Re: chinese food restaurant - a real kind, not strip mall kind
I'll be honest.. I kind of prefer the 'strip mall' kind. I find it's usually a lot more authentic than big places that cater to a western palate.
BUT I do love me some Long River in West Islip. I grew up on it (back when they WERE a strip mall place in Captree Commons!) and I swear they put some addictive substance in their food!

The Orchid in GC. Anyone else miss Gum Ying that used to be in West Hempstead? That was THE BEST around.

I've been going here since I was a kid. Their crab in ginger & scallion sauce is finger lickin good! And now I want some!
I went to Kwong Ming a couple of weeks ago for the first time and it was ok. What's funny is that I lived practically around the block from there for 5 years and the first time I had it was after I moved away.
King Yum in Fresh Meadows in really good too.
