Chocolate Lab Puppy that needs a home fast!!
Craigslist Ad
I was looking on Craigslist for a used fish tank and came across this ad. I e-mailed the person and he said the puppy was still available. He is looking for $200 for the puppy but how cute is that puppy. We just got a puppy less than two months ago and this is the exact dog that I wanted. I would hate for the dog to be brought to a shelter so please someone find him a home. I can't ask the boss(dw) to get another puppy so soon or he would be going home with me. I do not know anything about this ad or puppy other than the kid saying it was still available and that the puppy loves to play with other dogs. Thank you everyone.

Re: Chocolate Lab Puppy that needs a home fast!!
Wish I could take him, but I don't have time for a puppy right now. He is adorable, though. I hope he finds a good home.
Hate to even go there, but I have to say I think it's irresponsible of an owner needing to rehome a pet to charge an adoption fee. I think this person needs to focus on just finding the dog a home, without looking for any money.
I'd hate for the dog to end up at a Shelter, too, but guess what -- there are TONS of purebred dogs (and nice ones) at shelters... so asking $200 for it isn't going to help it get a home and avoid the shelter.
ETA -- And every time I've gone to the shelter to look for a pet, I've been able to find tons of - you guessed it - labs.
I DO hope the dog finds a good home... but I also hope the owner realizes that charging an adoption fee is not the way to go.
I wish people were more responsible when buying pets.
And yes, I get that he comes with collar, leash, crate, etc... but still. The owner won't exactly be needing those without the dog anyway... or he could just focus on rehoming the dog and selling the "stuff" separately / later.

I agree 10000000%.
Cute doggy though. So he didn't know 2 months ago that he was not going to be able to take care of the doggie? Very irresponsible.

I agree about the owner being a moron but lets not take it out on the dog. Puppies are expensive with all the shots or I would definately take it myself.

I made the thread about hopefully someone adopting this puppy not everyones thoughts and beliefs on the owner.

Who knows what the adoption fee is supposed to cover - but it certainly isn't the cost of the dog since he states he bought him for $800 (then there's the added cost of vaccinations and vet checks).
It's not like this guy is trying to make a buck off this innocent pup.
He is probably putting the cost out there to prevent puppy mill breeders or people who would abuse the pup won't bother wasting his time.
My cousin had guinea pigs that she put on craigs list and was putting an adoption cost out there so she would only get legit, interested people/families.
And adoption shelters usually charge just about the same amount for adopting a dog (again for vaccinations, vet checks, spading etc).
Sure, he should have taken his busy lifestyle into consideration before buying such an adorable pup, but he is trying to do right by it by finding him a new home.
Regardless, I hope the dog finds a great home with someone to love him unconditionally.

I agree. Anyone will take a free dog, and possibly abuse or harm it. Charging a fee is often a deterrent to people who want to just take a free dog to abuse in some way or another.
That is likely the reason and it is a good one. $200 is nothing for a pup like that.

How terrible. I hope the story is true and that this person didn't steal teh dog, or find him, etc. You just never know. Poor poor pup. Things like this just break my heart...how someone could be so irresponsible is sickening to me. I do wonder if there is more to the story though. Either way I hope this little pup gets the loving home he deserves.

Re: Chocolate Lab Puppy that needs a home fast!!
That puppy would be better off at a shelter because rescue would pull him or he would get adopted after a careful screening by a shelter. On Craig's list people do not care who they sell to...this puppy is not for adoption, he is for sale. Several months ago a woman adopted a puppy from NSALA and then had it on Craig's list. I contacted her and was able to get her first and last name and reported it to NSALA. NSALA sent out quality control and the puppy was taken back from the adopter.

Any breeder worth his name would take the puppy back, no questions asked.

Wow. That is why I think this kid may have found or stolen the puppy, that was my instinct. Based on the story (sounded fishy to me) and wanting to unload the pup so quickly.
But I guess I could be wrong. Can someone look into this?

I can not believe i am writing this but i emailed this guy . If as the poster above me stated and if it is a stolen dog and was lucky enough to get him I would check if he is chipped and ensure that it went back to it's owner but I would love another dog and that one is a cutie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kara:
Dog owners of puppies and small breed dogs are encouraged to charge a small adoption fee to ensure that the dog is not adopted by dog fighting rings to use as bait dogs.
Sean: I will forward the info to some friends in rescue. Thanks for posting!

Re: Chocolate Lab Puppy that needs a home fast!!
Why do you automatically assume the worst of people? MAYBE the kid got the dog thinking he could care for it properly (as he said) and now has to take additional classes to graduate on time, take an extra job to pay for school, whatever the case may be, he can't give the puppy the time and attention it deserves. - Is it the most responsible thing? No, of course not - but he's a college kid - Not everyone is in an ideal situation to revolve their lives around a pet .........it doesn't make him a theif or a terrible person .......
I would never have known there were 'no kill' shelters or an adoption screening process if I didn't read this board frequently to get information from all of you ........He may assume if he takes her to a shelter, she'll just be caged and put down .........Give the kid a break !!

Give the kid a break !!
He is leaving THIS weekend and he needs to find a home fast? This doesn't sound so odd to you? Did he not know he was leaving? Don't kids know pretty far in advance where and when they are going to school?
I think anything is possible and one would be ignorant not to consider all the possibilities here. Anyone is capable of anything. Sometimes you have a gut instinct, well I am having one of those feelings based on the urgency of him needing to unload this pup asap. Very odd if he has had the dog for 2 mths and now the dog has to go asap. Something seems missing from the story IMO and all possibilities must be considered.
What if this was someone else's pup and that is why this kid will soon "disappear" for school and in reality this could be a lost or stolen dog?
I think it is only smart to consider that this kid is going to go bye bye, that anything could be possible.
