Choosing a pediatrician...question

Sorry to crash but has anyone chosen a pediatrician who was not affiliated with the hospital they delivered at? I've been researching peds and the one who I am leaning towards is not affiliated with the hospital I will be delivering at. Is this a problem? Is it better to find a dr who will check my baby out in the hospital?

My ped is on vacation starting Friday and I'm expecting any day now (he actually vacations the same time every year, so I was aware), but it's not a big deal - the staff peds @ the hospital will check out the baby. Same thing happened with DS1.

You'll bring the baby to your ped @ 5 days old for his/her first checkup.

My Dr was not affiliated with the hospital I delivered at it wasn't a problem. The on call pediatrician group saw dd while she was at the hospital. I called my ped after dd was born and made an appointment for when she came home. When you get discharged they will give you all the paperwork you will need to give your ped.

Re: Choosing a pediatrician...question

From my understanding it really isnt a problem. Our office waas affiliated with our hospital but i do know someone who used a pedetritian that was not affiliated. They do not have rights in the hospital so your LO has to be seen by a pedetirian from th ehospital. Unfortunately, the ped who saw their baby was an out of network doctor and it was a big hastle when it came to billing. Just make sure someone sees your LO who takes your insuarnce.

It wasnt an issue for us. Our OB actually arranged for the ped to see DS when he was born (Dr. larias). If we werent moving to a different town we would have used him as our regular pediatrician.
