I think he is just going to wait until 2016 when the competition will be less.

I unfortunately don't see Obama getting knocked off (even against Christie)... which of course SUCKS since Obama has done absolutely jack **** to boost the economy.

If Christie waits until 2016, I think he has a strong chance since there won't be a Democratic candidate better than Obama... and the public will be totally sick of any Democrats at that point.

ITA, Christie is waiting until 2016. The Repubs will throw a softball this election (ie someone they know will lose) to open up the field for the stronger contenders in 2016.

As a teacher and a proud born-and-raised Jersey girl-NEVER on my life would I vote for him. His candor might be amusing at times, but he is a bully and a jerk.

Obama 2012.

Re: Chris Christie?

He is ALL image. Everything he does is so planned out - he's a youtube star, puts himself all over TV. He puts on this big, tough-guy act to make people think he's making things happen. And people find him funny - so his personality takes him far. I don't find him trustworthy AT ALL.

Of course it doesn't help that I'm a teacher.Chat Icon His attack on public schools is disgraceful. NJ has one of the most successfully run systems in the country - but he fails to see that because he looks to the failing schools in the poor, urban neighborhoods. His idea of a new teacher evaluation system is completely unreasonable - how is it fair to evaluate a teacher based predominantly on test scores? (I know NY is going through the same thing). There tons of other factors involved in student success/failure!!!

And all he's done this year is turn communities against teachers and the schools. I think a sort of backlash has begun against him...but the damage has been done. He makes my stomach turn. He has ZERO class. No man in his position should talk to people or about people the way he does. Hey, if you really think the pension system has hurt NJ economically, fine- do something about it - but why pin teachers and other public workers as the enemy and basically run an anti-public worker campaign? He's disgusting.

Ugh, you can't make me go there.Chat Icon I get myself in trouble over this guy. I can see that he has big plans to get things done, but I don't like the way he goes about it. It's all a freaking media frenzy with this guy. And that's politics for ya these days- Who can I get on my side and can I get you to turn against others....instead of meeting in the middle.

So, no - he will not get my vote.Chat IconAnd since he's on the more moderate side, I might not have had a problem with him. But he makes my blood boil. I think I might have to move out of the country if he
is elected. Chat Icon

Seriously though, I hate discussing politics because I never manage to describe exactly how I feel in a truly politically minded, intelligent way so I feel like I have no place. And it's sooo damn hard to truly put into words how much this man bothers me (and it's beyond the teacher bashing, it's his all out-war on unions and his general demeanor as an elected official).

So it's probably easier just to say I HATE THE MAN.Chat Icon

Oh have to add....a father of a student of mine grew up with Christie and adores him as a friend. And he's often told people, I can like the guy, but I don't have to like his politics. My mom even knows someone who worked for him and thought he was a great guy. I guess he doesn't bully everyone???Chat Icon

My biggest concerns about Christie are the social stances (very pro life). I like his "tell it like it is" personality.

While some may cringe at his attack on unions I think that for the majority of folks who are not unionized are weary of the amount of tax dollars that go to benefits esp in the out years.

Unfortnately, to me no politician has been able to truly speak the truth. Bottom line: the pot of money is fixed. We need to decide what we want to keep and what benefits we want to get rid of. Some folks will have to pay more, but we cannot have a society where 1/2 of the population funds the government and the other half takes the benefits.

I can totally see how non-union people feel this way...but we contribute more than people realize. And thanks to Christie's latest legislation requiring all of us to pay more into benefits/pension, I am taking home less this year than in years past (even though I always contributed to my benefits and pension) because of a salary freeze. And I'm only in my 6th year teaching, so I'm not rolling in the dough. Who the heck is going to want to become a teacher now? What is happening to the middle class????

He has basically made it his business to use the media to make public workers out as the bad guys and the biggest reasons for all the financial stress. And his main objective is to take away collective bargaining. That would be the end of it all - bye bye public education. There are reasons unions were formed.

Things CAN be fixed/improved, of course I'm not against that - but it's going to drive more of us into the ground financially.

My Doctor made a funny the other day...

Someone said, I wonder if Chris Christie is going to run or not.

The Doctor replied, if I were his physician I would STRONGLY encourage him to run -- and I'm not talking about any type of political race.

Seriously, I worry about him! He looks like he could have a heart attack Chat Icon and he's young, has kids, and so much to live for!

No, I would not vote for the guy. I am glad he speaks his mind but I feel he is too brash for a runner in that respect and he likes his sound bites. I don't like the social pieces he is strong about because for once and for all, please seperate church and state. Of course for the teachers it would be bad.

i am not a teacher but a state worker - i am not the enemy. I make less than 45K a year, I pay for our health care and I pay into my pension. I also pay the union and own a home and pay taxes. I am college educated, I am considered a professional and i repeat I am not the enemy.

Re: Chris Christie?

it's kind of scary how many people say they would vote for him because "they love him" or because of his personality. it's like the people who voted for obama because he's a good public speaker.... personalities and speaking abilities don't get the job done. i think voters in general (not just people on here - i'm not attacking anyone) need to pay more attention to politicians' policies, plans, etc. and less attention to their looks, personalities and public appearance.

IDK, one (and not the only, of course) reasons, I liked Clinton, was his great ability to schmooze. As Chief of State, i think it's very important to be able to speak well with foreign states and diplomats. But I see Christie taking his shoe off and banging it on a podium at the UN. Chat Icon

Re: Chris Christie?

I love Chris Christie because:
- He is like a breath of fresh air for all of us watching our government crumble and then watching the politicians scramble around pointing fingers yet still getting nothing done. Christie is actually doing it.
- He is making cuts, that no one had the audacity to do previously probably out of fear of not getting re-elected.
- He is doing the right thing by cutting expenses and negotiating deals with the Unions. Economics is simple, you can’t have more expenses then income….you will go bankrupt. Even Cuomo is following Christie’s pace, especially since NY’ers are leaving for NJ.

- His personality is an added bonus. I like that he tells it how it is, but his actions speak much more loudly to me.

That’s what America needs, we had over 1.2 TRILLION dollars of expenses last year that we had to BORROW or PRINT to pay. How long can this last?? America needs someone who make some drastic yet necessary changes. It is time for 'real' change or the hurt is just gonna hurt worse.

While I love cool sound bites as much as the next person, it takes more than sound bites to get me to vote for someone - ESPECIALLY someone who was a LOBBYIST.

I don't respect a man who doesn't value education. We see big businesses, private corporations cutting salaries, laying off workers with little to no severance, charging more & more for healthcare. Unions are the last line of defense to keep corporations in line.

Please, research who you are voting for!
