Christening gift from Godfather
Hello my brother was asked to be godfather for my cousins baby. He asked me what he should do as far as the gift, he's never been a Godfather before.
For the christening how much should a godfather give? Should he give a money gift and a piece of jewelery? He will be going to the christening party with his long time girlfriend. He's really not sure and I told him I would go on here and ask you guys.

Usually the Godmother buys the outfit and the Godfather buys or gives a crucifix or cross.

Re: Christening gift from Godfather
My DH just became a godfather too and we gave a cross on a chain and started a 529 savings plan for him.

Re: Christening gift from Godfather
My sister & BIL chose me and BIL's brother to be the godparents.
We spoke about doing a joint gift and chose to give our niece a diamond pendant and her gown.
Additionally, DH & I gave her a bond and some other little gifts.
If your brother is comfortable with speaking with the godmother, I don't see why there couldn't be a joint gift. I'm not really up on "tradition" so it worked for us.

Re: Christening gift from Godfather
I wa godmother to my sisters both kids. Both times, the godfather and I chipped in for a cross and chain. We didn't have to buy the outfit because my grandmother did the first time and my sisters MIL did the second time. He can also give a bond if he wants to give more.

Re: Christening gift from Godfather
Alex's Christening was yesterday.
I expected a cross and chain from the Godparents.
Needless to say, yesterday morning I was at Fortunoff before they even opened...
So I would say - he should speak with the Godmother to see what she got the baby (if they aren't a couple) and make a decision from there. If nobody is getting the cross and chain, get that. If someone is getting that, how about a Lladro or similar baby figurine? That will last forever.....everyone else gives $$ pretty much...
