Christening outfit for 2nd DC of the same sex..
if you had two girls or two boys... did you buy your second a new christening outfit?
I LOVE the dress I bought for my DD and spent a good amount of money on it...and now that I have my 2nd girl I am looking fwd to using this beautiful dress again?
My MIL (who happens to be Greek - but DH is Catholic and so am I) was a lil surprised I was "re-using" the dress and that I "really should get her a new one" She said that the priests tell you that you should get them a new one! She almost made me feel bad that I was even considering it!
I told her that is probably a Greek thing because I never heard of that before. I swear my cousin used my outfit 30+ years ago..and I kinda like the idea of it being worn by both my girls!
No matter what she says I am still using the same dress! HAHA
I was curious who does what?

Re: Christening outfit for 2nd DC of the same sex..
I'm using the same outfit for DS #2. We actually have a christening dress that my uncle or aunt wore back in the 30s. Half of my cousins and cousins kids have worn it. Including my mom, me, my sister and her girls. I had boys so I got a new outfit. We are Catholic and I never heard you should get new outfits for each kid.

It's totally fine to use the same one! You love it, use it again!
We used a family heirloom gown. It was the gown my grandfather was christened in over 90 years ago (made by my great-grandmother). Every child in my family since him has worn it, so it's been used over 15 times that I'm aware of.

Re: Christening outfit for 2nd DC of the same sex..
my sisters christening gown was then used on me, then on my sisters girl......
I'm not so big on alot of stuff in my family now, so if this second kid is a girl I'm planning to get a new gown..... If its another boy, also getting him a new outfit - so that when they have kids if they want they can use them and not have to share with their cousins.(weird I know)

Both girls wore the same dress.
I am not the most sentimental person, but it meant a lot to me for them to wear the same dress. I hope to pass it down to the for their kids.

Re: Christening outfit for 2nd DC of the same sex..
i used the same outfit for both DC, and i have a boy and a girl.
DS was first, i had my wedding dress turned into a very simple plain christening gown (very common for boys to wear gowns) he had a onsie underneath and the gown was over...
when DD was born (i still had material left over from my wedding dress) so we "frilled" it up, with bows and lace. it was still a gown and not a dress but it was def more feminine.
so i would re-use it...

I fully intended to reuse my son's christening suit when I had a second son, but it had long sleeves and long pants and #2 was christened in July. we bought him a much simpler suit with shorts and short sleeves so he would be comfortable.

I knew before my second was even conceived, we'd use my daughter's christening gown if we had another girl. It was just something I wanted to do. We just had to buy a white sweater. My first was christened in August and my second in January.

Re: Christening outfit for 2nd DC of the same sex..
Christening outfits are not important to me at all. I will use the same one if i can. I would rather give them each $50 for their savings account since i saved money on the outfit.

My DC are opposite sex. But I honestly think its nice if they use the same gown. Makes it more special IMO.

We have one christening gown that my children and all my nieces and nephews wear. After the christening my mom stitches the baby's name and date onto the slip that goes under the gown. DC# 2 (due in 6 weeks) will be the 9th name on the slip.

I love this..so sweet!
thanks ladies..I am glad i am in the majority
When I purchased my DD#1's outfit..I justified spending what I did knowing that I was going to (hopefully) have another DD and "get my money's worth"
Just out of curiousity - those who bought brand new ones for the same sex..are you Greek Orthodox?
Wondering if that really is the tradition --- or just my MIL who never saves anything and doesn't have a sentimental bone in her body!

Both of my daughters wore the same christening dress (I just loved it) and they even wore the same communion dress (which shocked me because I gave the choice of buying a new one)

If this baby were another boy, we would most definitely use the same outfit again.
I actually love the idea of starting that tradition.
I am having a girl though so she will get her own outfit.

Re: Christening outfit for 2nd DC of the same sex..
My mom who saves everythinhg has been trying to get someone in my family to wear either my brother or my christening outfit since my first nephew was born 4 years ago.. I was very dismissive of her idea until I had my own DD and read on here about starting the tradition of stitching names onto the gown/dress/slip of the LO who wore the dress along with the christening date. I fell in love with the idea and now that my DD is being christened in 2 months I hope and pray that she will be able to fit into my grown so that I can start that tradition .. It actually gets me teary to think of it and makes me very happy.
Im glad that you said you are going to do what makes you happy =)
For what it is worth I am Orthodox as well.. and have never heard such a thing. Although I understand the idea that Christening is in essence a new begginning, so baby should have something new (maybe thats where she gets it from?).. how about a new onsie or socks or shoes or something.. ??

I got my 2nd DD a new dress.
FWIW I am orthodox(not greek) and when I asked the priest about my first DD-like if there were any restrictions-he did say new-not sure why though.

My 2 daughters and my 2 nieces all have worn (or will wear) the same dress. I plan on having their names and birthdates embroidered on the inside

Re: Christening outfit for 2nd DC of the same sex..
If I have another boy I wouldn't mind using the same outfit, however DS was born in May and baptised in August. His outfit was a cute short sleeve top and shorts set.
The next one ( at this poing) is due in Oct, so not looking like we'd use the same outfit as it would be too cold when we baptism him/her.
