Christmas village for house
I am looking to start collecting, actually it's my DH wants to start collecting and I thought of getting him the first piece this year. Where is best place to buy? What is a very good brand that I will be able to find easily? I would like to start off with a pub.. Thanks.

Dept 56
Fortunoff has a huge selection and I also recommend going the day after x-mas also if you want to start building a collection, everything is 50% off! it's a mad house, but I went last year and got about 6 pieces at half off was well worth it.
Also e-bay is good for that stuff also. I got a few things from there last year.

Limited Edition has been closed for almost a year so that's not an option anymore.
I also find them on websites if you know what you are looking for.

We collect the Northpole set from Dept 56.
My Mother started the collection then when she passed away. I inherited from here. I now have about 33 house. Its a lot of fun and a lot of work to put up and take down every year.

Re: Christmas village for house
Defintely Department 56. There are several different lines, you should see which one you like best.
Here are a few pubs.
Dickens Village--The Red Lion Pub
Christmas in the City--Molly O'Briens Irish Pub
Horse and Hounds Pub
Halloween--Witches' Brew Pub--I own this one, love it!

Re: Christmas village for house
Thank you so much everyone! Dept 56 it is and Molly O'Brien's Pub will be the first one if I can find it - DH is from Ireland so that will suit just fine! I may give it to him as a St. Stephen's Day gift (aka Boxing day but it's called St. Stephen's Day in Ireland) to get the 50% discount Thanks again and thanks for the pics!
