So if the smoke waifs near the doors for the 2 minute cigarette break I take, then so be it.

So be it that people will think you're being rude & inconsiderate.

so much for you not trying to offend any LIF posters as stated in your first post.

You said "So be it"... not caring that non-smokers care about their health, and not want to inhale 2nd-hand smoke.... I'm sorry, but your being inconsiderate is offensive to me.... hence, the whole reason why I started this post.

I could be very wrong, but I thought there was some sort of law that required smokers to stand at least 15 feet from the entrance of a building...

as far as Im concerned you are gonna die from something. Inhaling 2 seconds of cigaratte smoke as you walk to your car isnt gonna kill ya.

Re: Cigarette Smoke---Am I the only one that this bothers?

I can sympathize with smokers. It is a bad situation all around. It is a hardcore addiction. Those who quit congrats. I have never picked one up, but I see so many of my friends and cousins always trying to quit. Since DH works in bars, I was so glad then ban was put in place. I worried about his health. But my cousin always says she feels like a crackhead or something standing outside the bar to smoke.

Do I get angry at smokers? YES. even this morning I wanted to tell a lady at the bus stop to get away from the awning and smoke somewhere else. Is it my business? No. I could easily have gotten up and stood off to the side. It is all about respect. Some smokers have it, some don't. Should they go stand out in the rain? I don't think it is necessary, but I do wish they weren't smoking around me at all. but what can you do?

Re: Cigarette Smoke---Am I the only one that this bothers?

I don't so much mind the smoke when I walk in and out of the buildings as I do the woman who lives below me and blows her smoke into the kitchen exhaust fan, which inturn, blows into MY kitchen. I ALWAYS come home to a smokey smelling house and it's disgusting considering JT and I do not smoke. And I can't say anything because it's HER apartment, she can do what she wants. Now we have to run the exhuast fan in OUR kitchen all day long. I told JT I want to put the cat litter up to our exhaust fan and see if she has something to sayChat Icon Chat Icon

Actually, I suggested that maybe with public ashtrays, the smoking area can be somewhat controlled.

I lived in California for a long time and it was a a law that you couldn't smoke within a certain radius of the entrance of EVERY building. I don't remember the distance, it might have been 15 feet. It seems like a good idea, but I don't remember it being enforced a whole lot, but there aren't as many smokers out there, either.

I said what was one of the solutions already....
They need to build an enclosed room that many smokers can get in outside the building....and smoke away.....then all of us who do not smoke will be happy when we come in or out of a building....and you guys will be happy because you all got your nicotine fix.....and even socialize with your other smoker fellows in there....Chat Icon

Tell that to people who are diagnosed with Lung Cancer when they've never had a cig in their life.

I totally agree that not all smokers are inconsiderate. I tried to be considerate when I was a smoker insomuch as I would put my butts out in ashtrays and try to stay away from doorways. I just meant that more smokers should try to practice that kind of etiquette.

yes, it's 50'. It applies to hospital, restaurant, schools..but not bars...go figure.

And as far as the original discussion, I agree with Lichi 100%. I've actually vomited from walking through a group of smokers standing in a doorway. It was raining, and they were all huddled against the doors. I looooooathe 2nd hand smoke. Hey, you wanna slowly kill yourself, go ahead...but don't bring me into it.

that would be great!!

it could even be like those vestibules at bus stops. enclosed enough so the smoke doesn't bother passersby....

I am going to edit my comment by saying I *think* that was the law (there is usually someone on here that will look something up and tell me I am wrong.....but because there were fewer smokers, the non-smokers made a bigger deal of it, so I think smokers were more considerate about it.
