CIO for naps - please help
Is 5 months too young? According to Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby I should start it now. That for naps they should CIO for 1 hour before going in. She's fed and changed and just wants to play ALL the time!!!
DD pretty much stopped napping these last few weeks. She'll catch a cat nap here and there, but nothing restorative. She actually has circles under her eyes.
At night she's sleeping 8 - 4am and then is up. I give her a bottle and keep everything dark and quiet but as soon as I put her back in the crib she wants to play. I leave her to play - she doesn't fall back to sleep!!!
So I just put her in the crib for her 2pm nap (she's been up since 11:30) and she's crying. She can only roll one way - do I flip her??? or just let her cry?? This is going to kill me, but she needs to nap right????

Re: CIO for naps - please help
I used it for naps and did it incrementally...went in after 5 minutes, then 10 minutes, then 15, etc. After a few days they get it.

Re: CIO for naps - please help
I let Steven fuss and cry a little bit, but I can't bring myself to let him full out cry. I think if you can do it, then go for it. But you have to be consistent.

does she use the paci? I don't think you are supposed to touch them, but I could be wrong.

nope, no paci. Its in her crib and she knows how to put it in her mouth - but she hates it.

I ususally just go in and give him his paci and rub his back. I don't let him cry long though. Maybe like 2 minutes.

You're right...your baby needs her rest so that she can be happy and healthy!

Re: CIO for naps - please help
I went in and she immediately started smiling - I didn't interact just flipped her onto her belly and started rubbing her back. She cried and cried but eventually calmed down.
Let's see how long this lasts.
I HATE nap time

Re: CIO for naps - please help
OMG Jodi- we are going through the same thing- he naps so well, 2-3 times a day (on a pretty regular schedule) but NOT in the crib- only with me in the bed or in the swing!
I give you so much credit for doing CIO- I'm too scared to do it- I keep saying THIS week we will do it but then I back down!

Re: CIO for naps - please help
Glad that you won the napping battle. Letting them CIO is so tough. I did some of that and she is a pretty good napper now. She will play in her crib sometimes for a half hour before falling asleep but she's content & eventually drift off to dream land. I hope it improves for you!
