CIO moms... question

What do you do when they're sick?

My son is horrible when he's sick. He wakes all the time and just wants to be held. He's all congested.

But if we go in there once to hold him, rock him and put him back to sleep... he wakes every hour. Like tonight. Chat Icon

so what do you do? Do you let them CIO through sickness (aside from vomiting and fevers)?

No. I actually bring him into our bed and it makes him sleep and mentally feel better. I could never let him CIO when he is sickChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i think that if they are sick you have to indulge them a little and just get through it....then i think once they are feeling better and you know there is nothing wrong, then you can go back to your CIO if need be. hope he's feeling better very soon!!

I never went in... it just made everything worse... but then again, thankfully my kids have never had anything worse than a cold...

Yeah but he seems to get a cold at least once a month. Chat Icon

So i'm really supposed to get up every hour, rock him for 15 minutes, put him down and then get up another 45 mintues later to redo the process?

My DS is the same way, he doesn't associate sleeping with our bed--he thinks its play time. I don't let him CIO when he is sick----when he was really sick DH & I would take turns sleeping in the rocking chair with him. I hope your little man feels better soon!! Chat Icon

If it's just a common cold then I wouldn't go in. Anything more serious and I would take him out for a little bit and then put him back in! Hope he's better soon! Chat Icon

Re: CIO moms... question

It depends on how sick he is. If he is just having trouble breathing through his nose but no fever or anything, I usually leave him because he falls back asleep within 10-15 minutes.

Yeah the problem with that is my husband works a lot of nights and so it's just me at night. Plus he won't really sleep on me. I've tried sleeping on the couch with him, in the rocker, etc. He's a constant mover when he sleeps, so he gets uncomfortable.
